I am with you on that! If you go to <a href="http://www.lakedelhi.com" target="_blank">www.lakedelhi.com and read the minutes from April 22nd you will see that only 17% of the people that live around the lake have donated or pledged to the rebuilding fund. That tells you that they want the dam back but the majority of them DO NOT want to pay for it and instead would prefer to panhandle our governments (local and federal) to give them the money to do it.

Not to get too distracted from what the article is about. Congratulations to the 911 dispatchers and the first responders who took so many people out of harms way. God Bless all of you!

"As of today, the Community Fund to Rebuild Lake Delhi has raised $942,000 in pledges/donations towards the initial goal of $3.5 Million for the rebuilding of dam!"

PLEDGES is the operative word here drunkdriverx4! (which by the way I think your name is appropriate for the representation of the Lake Delhi inhabitants)

"We have approximately $240,000 in actual cash"

That's a little short of a million but I am sure your brain is a little hazy from last night so you are excused. These quotes are from the April 22nd minutes posted on <a href="http://www.lakedelhi.com" target="_blank">www.lakedelhi.com. Maybe you should have somebody read them to you since I am sure you are not intelligent enough to read them yourself.

No donation from me. I pay enough in taxes to the government, giving a donation to LDRA's cause is just like giving it directly to the Feds since they will be confiscating that money for repayment of the misappropriated funds received from FEMA previously.

They don't have time to clean up their mess they are too busy trying to raise funds for a new dam, that they will not maintain and will breach again. They have raised over $100,000 now and they have not offered a penny of it to help with any clean up effort. The county is financially strained because it has spent $100,000 cleaning up their mess and still they march on begging FEMA and the state of Iowa for money and planning to raise over $3,500,000 for their part of the rebuild. I hope that their permit to build gets denied and FEMA puts a levy on their account for repayment of the funds that they already owe them.

Not in their minds....check out this link to the new article: http://www.easterniowanewsnow.com/2011/04/07/fina...
They have raised $782,000 that they plan to spend on getting their dam rebuilt with no regard for the $100,000 their poorly maintained dam caused the Delaware County taxpayers! They better NEVER get that dam rebuilt.

Not to mention whomever wins the boat will have to pay income tax on the value ($36,485) less the $10 that they paid for the ticket. I hope this newly formed 501C3 company understands that they have to do a 1099 to the winner. Especially since they just published it in a newspaper.

Wouldn't it be funny if they raise the money to build the dam (which I doubt that they will in our lifetime) and then they apply for the building permit and get denied. LOL! Well, then they can use the money they raised to clean up the abandoned properties and mess that their neglect caused. But instead they will probably divide the money up between themselves and have a big party!

If they had 3 mil to spare they wouldn't have vacation homes around Lake Delhi. I would think they would want to be in a more upscale area than Lake Delhi! Having money and making people think you have money is two very different things!

It is interesting that they told you how much the boat cost but not how many tickets are being sold. Everything that happens with those people and the dam is suspicious to me.
