If you build a dome bottom up they waffle around because they are missing critical stabilizing struts at the center vertices. Domes have a consistent structural integrity when assembled top down. So when you're adding more struts to the bottom you just have 1 person (or two) lift the dome, it maintains it's shape :)
so most points have either 5 or 6 struts coming out of them. assuming the top three struts are bolted into place the remaining two are loose on the ground in opposite directions. Lifting the dome at all scissors them together and means that any lifting folds the struts into place and gets them ready to be bolted. If you're assembling the two bottom levels it can be helpful to have 2 or 3 lifters but that's much easier than finding a scissor lift, crane or clambering around on dangerous ladders.

Interesting that the board members of openID are six apart people. I don't know about it in the long term, personally I like to keep my usernames and logins apart. I think other people like it though.
