And his stories are always about ordinary good overcoming extraordinary evil. His heroes are strong men with strong character and unmistakably honest. And he consistently toys with the shallowness of the glitz and glamor world. One of my favorite Koontz stories is when he was sent out to, I believe, Conan O'Brian, or some other late night show, to promote a movie of one of his books. The story had been completely butchered, with the Hollywood execs needing to make it more PC. When asked by Conan if people should see the movie, Koontz replied, "Well, if you have the choice of seeing this movie or nailing your hand to the wall, I'd nail my hand to the wall." Honesty.
