I smell a lawsuit coming ... if there was a propane leak as suggested within the article and the landlord failed to act promptly, that's called negligence. OTOH, what on earth was this family doing in a house where they KNEW there was a propane leak? That's just craziness. I would have packed up my kids and gone to a hotel.

No CrooklynBoy, that IS what she meant. She clearly stated that, because Governmental workers' efforts don't produce income for the people, they are "drains." Try and spin it another way, but you'll just look disingenuous. What 12knot pointed out is completely valid ... just because a Government worker doesn't produce money for the economy and instead helps to spend tax dollars doesn't mean s/he is a "drain."

I'm a Conservative, but oftentimes, Ann's love for blanket statements make my eyes roll ... for once, I wish she'd THINK before she experienced verbal diarrhea. NOT ALL Government workers are "drains on society" who don't produce income. Before the economy tanked, I worked for a State governmental agency that was consistently within the top three income-producers for the State. Furthermore, we were ENTIRELY self-supporting (i.e. the money for our wages and operating costs were paid for by the income we produced ... and what was left over, which was rather plentiful, went to the State). Not all Governmental agencies are "takers." I loathe Bill Mahrer, but I'm disappointed he didn't put Coulter in her place on that one.
