For me, McLuan was always be the locus of vacuous thought. I don't mean to say that McLuan was vacuous; it just that anybody could quote McLuan to make themselves look smart even though they had no idea what was meant by the quote. And these "smart" folks could get away with it, because they knew in their audience didn't know what the hell was meant either. That scene in Annie Hall summed up completely all I understand about McLuan.

I fear I may have missed something essential about the guy.
