if it were a bear instead of a kid with a hammer, they wouldn't have shot it. I would say a bear is more dangerous than a kid with a hammer.

Still wouldn't want to be a cop, tough job, tough and fast decisions with serious consequences. If I screw up in my job, I just restore the backup. Cops don't have that option.

Why would anyone want to own a great dane or a pit bull?

The entire time they own the dog they will have to deal with people not liking or trusting their dog. Dogs are supposed to be fun, get a golden or a friendly mutt.

His death may have nothing to do with the race, but it is important to work up to these distances. Too many people attempt an Ironman distance triathlon way too soon. IMO, it should take ~3 years to get from "OK" fitness to Ironman fitness. You should have completed a half-Ironman distance, and a full marathon before considering the Ironman. Ironman takes a toll on even the healthiest athletes and it can cause injury if you haven't built up the fitness. There's no hurry. Every activity has it's risks, if this was race related, it is a rare event.
RIP

Probably thrown in the lake by a fisherman, the fish in that lake are jerks. They jump out of the water right in front of your line to taunt you, there are times I would have tossed a grenade at them.

What are the criteria to determine if this test is a success or failure?

If it is not working, they should reverse the changes ASAP to keep the peace.

This shows how important it is to include bike routes in all new roadways so the next generation doesn't have to deal with a mess like this.

Looking at a Boulder Map, Folsom does seem like the best North South bike route through the middle of town. Maybe there are less drastic measures to improve that route.

I have never had a problem cycling on Folsom, except once, when I got hit by a driver who didn't see me who was turning into 7-eleven, but I don't know if the changes made would have prevented that collision. I consider the Folsom bike route intermediate in terms of required bike riding experience, I wouldn't want to see a young kid or elderly cyclist on that road in some areas.

Maybe the boulder bike route map needs to be redrawn in terms of riding experience levels, like Greens and Blues. Most new cyclists only feel comfortable on easy Greens and I'm sure there are major gaps in the system for easy ride routes. If the goal is to get people out of their cars and onto bikes, then the easy routes will be key. I wouldn't mind adding 5 minutes to my ride to stay on a safe path. IMO, the recreational and exercise cyclists are probably already getting Boulder around OK.

IMO, The most important part of a path system is complete routes.

If I can bike 99% of the way to a location, but there is a small stretch without a bike lane or a busy road to cross then I'll take my car. People need to get completely from point A to point B without sketchy car interactions.

A strategically selected over/underpass or small stretch of new bike path makes the other 99% of the path system all the more valuable.

what's with the Boulder LSD? I bet it's not really LSD - I've been to dozens of dead shows with people tripping all over the place and no violence.

Sad and horrible death for this kid.
