Did Barta and the university even pick up the phone to talk to the Sheriff before holding their self-congratulatory news conference? The arrogance here is startling. This has backfired in a big way and it only demonstrates what amateurs we have running the Athletic Dept. and the University.

IAguy -- don't be put off by a working press conference. It's a little like watching sausage being made, and a number of agendas are being pursued. It's not a finished product. The article/new report is the finished product.

Tom Izzo represents what is right about college athletics. Mike Hlas pausing amid the hysteria to worry about ISU athletics during this recent conference expansion is also what's good about college athletics.

Tom Izzo calling Mike Hlas on the phone about a column is not a surprise, but in fact says something about both men.

Welcome back to the Midwest, and nice work on the Amy Mickelson piece yesterday. I didn't read anything else that framed the irony quite as well. The image of Phil and Amy embracing after 18 completely blew away all this media fascination with Tiger and his troubles. Here was love at just about its purest and finest from two people who understand a little bit about the depth of a marriage. Tiger who, I thought as I watched them.

I would be surprised if the athletic department would release such information. And I agree completely that there needs to be a commitment to a winning program.
