I give huge respect to anyone who has good enough body image to run naked. I don't think I ever could. I remember running in my first year when I wouldn't take off my running jacket. This was fine to begin with as I started my running career in winter but by April, I was way too hot. I'm much better now but naked is a step too far.
Boot camp training is growing in the UK. British Military Fitness run sessions in parks around London every day. The coaches are all ex-military and they do shout but they make sure they never humiliate. I've done it a few times and its excellent. A mixture of jogging, sprinting and press-ups, sit-ups etc.
I hope your dates went well and have fun on you holiday Stevie.

Being from London, I have no idea why people were looking at your running friend. Running is so popular now in the UK. Running clubs have never been more full and running events sell out so fast. For the 35,000 places for next years London Marathon, they closed the web site after a day because they had 150,000 entries.
On Clapham Common, my local park, there is a complaint from some locals as there is now a wide groove around the edge where runners have worn away the grass.
Allan and Stevie - I hope you make in to the London Marathon at some point or to the UK for another reason. I'll take you out and show you just how runner friendly London can be.
Cheers,
Simon

The enjoyment is not comparable. I did a hard hill session on Wednesday. It was muggy, my knee hurt a little, I was working so hard I thought I might lose my lunch but it was a blast. I came home grinning like I usually do after a run. The mere thought of swimming fills me with dread.
So, I think I've made up my mind. I hate to lose the money I've paid for the IM (£330 or about $500) but I'm not going to make myself miserable.

Anyway, you did fantastically well and were lucky to have Andrew there to kick your arse back into the water :-) Great show, thanks.

Great podcast as usual. Thanks.
Allan - keep going with the clipless pedals. It takes a long while to get good with them. I can now cycle through busy London rushhour traffic whilst clipped in without fear. I learnt to unclip as I approach a junction but keep my foot on the pedal or cycle one footed.
One other thing, did you know you can get cleat covers? They are plastic things than pull over the cleats. I carry a pair in my bag just in case something happens and I have to walk in my cycling shoes.
Cheers,
Simon

I wouldn't say I'm a strong cyclist but I had a good year on the bike last year at did the Etape in June (stage of the Tour de France). I just need to find the time to do the same kind of training in the coming months. Cycling is just so time consuming.
I have no doubt that if you built up your bike miles you'd be able to do an ironman. You sound like you could swim all day and I know you can run a marathon. I think most people have one weaker disipline but it shouldn't stop you.
And keep working on Stevie; she should definitly do a triathlon. She'd do great.

On the running high, I don't get much during a session but I get it for a few hours afterwards, especially after a race. I can also get quite emotional after a long race so its best if I'm on my own in the car. I haven't yet got a high from swimming (only started 2 months ago) but I am so pleased after every session when I have managed not to drown.
I was interested in your comments that apart from Brandon, anyone attempting an ironman in their first season of triathlon is mad. I agree but I've now paid the £330 and there is no going back :-) My first tri will be one 16th May and the Ironman is 1st August. Gulp!!!!!
