Got my copy - thank you! Haven't read it yet, but it looks interesting.

I thought there was a bus service from the City Centre? Maybe it doesn't exist any more, but it used to run quite regularly, from the City Centre to the front door of the maternity department. It was really handy, and much easier than driving and trying to park.

I don't think it was free, but it wasn't terribly expensive either. It would be a shame if it has been axed.

I agree, it would be fantastic to have Wi-Fi on trains and buses. It would also be a BIG attraction for the Dublin train - business travellers could work on the train. If I had reason to be on business in Dublin, I'd definitely chose a WiFi enabled train over driving.

I agree, this is excellent. It will make it so much easier to work on the go, check emails, browse the web and so on. I often need to check emails when I'm out and about, and to be able to do it quickly and easily would be wonderful.

The sentence does seem relatively harsh, although it has to be remembered that the man did steal the keys - although he doesn't seem to have done anything with them for quite some time. And what he would or wouldn't have done if not caught, we will never know - but given that he appeared to be clearing up after himself, he seemed to have some respect for the place.

Could it be that the judge figured that throwing a homeless guy out on the street in winter was not the best idea, and maybe thought he'd give him some time in a warmer place?

I don't think people are so much complaining about the problem of not having water as they are about how it's been handled. No one could really have stopped the pipes bursting; it was made worse by happening over Christmas when a lot of buildings are empty, so the bursts went undiscovered.

However, NI Water should have a plan in place to deal with this kind of situation. Water tankers should have been brought in earlier, and there should have been more publicity about what people should do. Communication has been poor, and a lot of people were initially confused as to how to get help. They should have a plan in place which specifies where water stations will be set up; they should be clearer about when water supplies will be switched on and off (and, although they produce spreadsheets with the switch-on/off information, it would also be helpful to tell people which water station is relevant to them - surely there's a list somewhere).

There's not really that much water in snow, though. It hasn't rained all that much in the last month or so, I guess. I know of some people who were collecting snow and melting it to flush the toilet, but a bucketful of snow is about 2 inches of water once you melt it down.

Absolutely. I used to teach maths tutorials to first year engineering students at Queens, and some of the maths was appalling. There were significant numbers who didn't understand what a square number was, or even the concept (if they saw '4 squared', written as 4 with a little 2 after it, they read it as '42'). Multiplying was also a challenge for many, and long division was well beyond some.

Like the new layout. It's nice. The photo of the man sucking a dummy has always disturbed me a bit.

A minute after arriving, I still don't have the faintest idea what they do, and have no desire to find out.
