I did the exact same thing when there were workmen building new houses opposite my parents house! I was so used to it being a field.

We went to the Bauhaus just outside of Mannheim, near Poco. It was really nice inside, not like the scummy one we have in Heidelberg!
We get our car in just over a week! Squee!

You want to get close to your subject and play around with the aperture settings. You can do this exercise to help: find some good lighting and get in close to your subject, start out at the lowest aperture, take a photo at each setting, moving up to the highest aperture, but keep everything else the same. Look at the photos you've taken and make a note of which one has more of the effect you're after. That's the one which has the settings you'll want to use, you should be able to check the settings for each photograph in camera after you've taken the photo.
What kind of camera are you using? It's easier to do this with an SLR and a lens that has a longer focal length, the longer focal length means that you can get more of the subject in the frame but still get the blurred effect. It is possible to do with a compact camera but you have to get in much closer (and with the macro setting usually).
Hope that helps, let me know how it turns out!

I love dinner time, Mikey usually "helps" which is when I can put him to work emptying the dishwasher (or at least the safe items in there) or stirring things. It's lots of fun. If my husband takes him while I cook then it's also nice and relaxing for me.
