I'm sure this has been discussed, so I apologize if so...but what would the tax ramifications be on this? The quicken loan surely wouldn't cover it...would you have to have a few hundred thousand in the bank to pay to be able to survive? I am just curious how one would handle it. Thanks.

Gorgeous, they remind me of Swedish rag rugs. Love the ones on the blue wall.

Here is a article on the TEN most generous states.
They judge it by the % of peoples income that is given to charities.
---Utah came in first, then Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, .... http://247wallst.com/2012/08/22/americas-most-and...

Also, I tried googling kindest states but mostly founds lists under friendliest states. Utah seemed high on some of thoses lists...sadly, I live in NJ...but I'm not terribly surprised :) Good luck to whomever it is!

I'm sorry to hear of your struggle. But I'm glad you still find moments to enjoy life...even entering a contest can bring about little happy moments...
bless you

My 9 and 5 year old would be camping out in that craft room. I love the natural light and that if feels like a cozy nook.

GL to everyone!

:(
I know..this has happened to the past couple of DH's in this down market.
Its too bad they can't make it easier for the winners to keep the house. I was thinking a reality TV gig if you were the winner and kept the home. It might be interesting..and the winner would have additional financial incentive to move there.

My dream job would be working for HGTV. Second to winning one of the homes, of course. So 'working' in that way would be very cool (but I know it wouldn't be to everyone...)

I love house-naming. We have an historic shore town here and every home has a name. The plaques hang from each covered porch...so very cool. Good idea Jupiter, they should have a contest to name the DH.

I'm always a sucker for the 'happiest town' votes. I'm in the northeast and while there are a lot of great things about living up here, I wouldn't say we'd win the 'happy town' award. I try my best, but sometimes you catch the negative bug.

Just living in a beautiful area like Kiawah must be a mood-picker-upper. I'm in.
