Just to clarify, if Speraw were to join the staff, it would have a former Iowa player. He played under Olsen. I think this would be a savvy hire and bring in a veteran presence. I have also heard Wayne Morgan's name thrown around. That would be a great pick up as well. Or Rodell Davis. Like the head coach search itself, we need to be careful to not fall in love with more prominent names (Horner, Settles, Bowen) and focus in on who would be best for the position. For that top assistant position, I would love to see a seasoned veteran fill the post. If we cannot bring in Forbes, someone like him, with an established reputation as a coach or assistant, with great recruiting bloodlines would be just what the doc ordered.

I don't understand what in the article supports the headline's premise.

The fact that Hewett of GT and Marshall are "rumored to be on Iowa's radar" (Hewett in another story from another site) really concerns me. Either of these guys would be settling for at best a second tier guy. Hewett has been as down as he has been up at GT. He has a losing conference record at GT, and his teams haven't won more games than they have lost in conference since 2003-2004. Sure he went to a final, but not much to look at outside of that. Losing overall records 3 of the last 5 years. Eesh! And Marshall has had one arguably good year at Wichita, but even this year, they lost six games in a very weak (save UNI) Missouri Valley. No big time coaching experience here. Some one make the argument for either of these guys! If we are gonna go in a direction like this, go after Ernie Kent or Steve Lavin. Either of those guys have much more street cred and both are more accomplished than Marshall or Hewett. Looks like we are settling if these reports are true.
