Also, many people don't seem to know what type of person would be the best suited for marriage. How many women and men have met someone, "fell in love" with them, but there were some....characteristics that may not have been conducive to a happy marriage? And married them anyway?

There really are certain characteristics to look for in a good spouse (most of which are character-related), but a lot of people ignore that just because "They make me so happy!"

"Sure, they play way too much “Harry Potter,” which I can’t stand,"

Ben, that hurt, it really did. *pout* But John Williams really does have great music. And no mention of his work on the Home Alone soundtrack????? For shame!

And for the Jerry Goldsmith examples.....NO RUDY??!?!?!?

*applause* I've wondered the same thing as well! If their country is so awful that they have to leave it, why not treat the disease, not the symptom?

Letting illigals work here is just putting a band aid on the problem. Want to stop it, fix what's wrong with Mexico.

"she ruined it through her own actions, happy or not"

Agreed. I said in a comment up above that no one forced those drugs into her system, so I'm not trying to excuse her actions as "not her fault". But what would make a person so unhappy that they would want to "destroy themselves"? We've all had our bad days, but most of us probably wouldn't want to go as far as "destroying" ourselves.

"I'm happy without most of those things, but if I had them I wouldn't mind at all. :-)"

:-D Of course. But you're probably happy because you have something more substantial in your life that Ms. Houston (and apparently a lot of other celebrities) didn't. What that is, I'll have to let you figure out yourself. ^_^

Perhaps we should redefine what "having it all" means......last time I checked, while money, talent, good looks, etc. are nice, they don't bring lasting happiness.

"makes you wonder about the people surrounding these quick to fame stars, they don't really care for them."

That's a very good point. Addiction, at it's root, seems to be an extreme way for someone to deal with negative emotions. If it is true that these people are surrounded by those who do not truly care for them, perhaps they sense that, and turn to alcohol, drugs, and other harmful behaviors as a way to cope, or maybe, to provoke someone around them to reach out and say, "I love you, I care about you, please stop."

I'm not trying to remove the element of self control and personal responsibility. No one forced the drugs into her system. But you have to wonder what would drive someone to want to "destroy" themselves.

"Did you notice the outpouring of honors and affection for the late singer Etta James? Age wasn't a factor in people appreciating her. Why? She was a singer."

The fact that she appeared to have some class probably was another contributing factor.
