Excellent piece, Ms. Colon. It should be required reading for first year students at the Columbia University School of Journalism. But, of course, to the leftists who populate that faculty, what you say is heresy.

I also learned a thing or two from Michael Walsh when he was here at BJ and edited my stuff. That man can write. I put him right up there with Steyn.

I'm posting your column at lucianne.com, where you have many fans.

In the event of resignation or death of a sitting vice president, the President nominates a replacement who must be approved by both Houses of Congress; a Secretary of State designate has to get by the Senate.

I know. Isn't it something? See my reply to onecornpone above.

You know, onecornpone, you have a point. This administration is almost--though not quite--but almost beyond parody. In a way, it's a parody of a normal administration, if there ever was such a thing. They're doing so many bizarre and troubling things that some people have difficulty recognizing as satire the situations I posit. The abuses of power have become so common, so obvious, that we've become numb to them in a way. Over 50 years of watching politics, I've never seen anything like it. I believe mocking these people is one small way of helping to bring voters to their senses in November 2012. Or God help us all.

This is a brilliant piece. There is more wit packed into these seven frames than a hundred Doonesbury Sunday strips.

An editor once rejected something of mine with these words: "Sorry, Steve. As G. B. Shaw said, 'Dying is easy; comedy is hard.'" So true. I think the only way you can fully appreciate Muir's genius is if you've tried your hand at political satire. It's a bear.

"Hard to Mock"? Good grief. I've been mocking him since 2008. He has been a marvelous source of material, more's the pity for the country.

Appreciate the kind words. And you've touched on something important: the need--now more than ever--for a break here and there from all the deadly serious stuff.

Thanks to Larry McMurtry, I know what it means, too. I've often wondered what it would have been like to grow up in a place like Texas, sleeping under a blanket of stars and exploring the land on a good horse with a view to forever. Alas, a dream for this Connecticut Yankee.

Observant readers will note that halfway through the panel, participants rudely ignore Suarez when answering his questions, addressing their responses to Jim Lehrer, who is sitting quietly nearby. Possibly some latent anti-Hispanic sentiment revealing itself here.
