I think "amazing" replaced "awesome" because we kept beating people over the head with, "God is awesome and if he is not on your softball team then stop saying it is awesome". But thanks for the awesome replies. They were phenomenal.

Here are couple of, uh, couples that have been overlooked.

Mr. and Mrs. Telepathy
These are the folks who think the discussion time is the appropriate time to attempt to move that vase in the corner just using their mind power instead of actually paying attention and participating. When they aren't trying to move grandma's heirloom, their other signature move, which oddly seems to fit every question, is the shoulder shrug. These are the ones, unfortunately, who are the most likely to make it to small group when there is 15 feet of snow out and no one else arrives.

Captain and Mrs. Amazing,
Their amazing kid did this amazing trick last week using an amazing thing that they picked up at an amazing camp they went to. Everything is amazing. The liver flavored jell-o, simply amazing. How did the discussion go last week? It was amazing. What? Your dog had puppies? That is amazing. Chapters 1 - 87 were just amazing. I love my small group. It is amazing. Finding a new adjective just once in a while, now that would be amazing.

We also like to remind ourselves that we are new creatures. Of course, we rarely do this immediately before busting our knuckles in junk yard scuffles with evolutionists.

When Christianity is synonymous with standing for Jesus, the Bible, having your sins forgiven so you don't have to go to H - E - double hockey sticks, then I love the label. When Christianity is synonymous with being an arrogant, unloving jerk "in the name of Jesus", then I pretty much hate it as much as I would if a root canal were a requirement of daily quiet time.

Rice's comments only bother me because her perception of Christianity appears to be in line with the way many people see us. They see us as the people who are "agin everything" (I used the word "agin" because that is how old timey we can seem). But what can we do? Matthew 5:16 clearly says, "Let your boycott shine before men so that they see your ridiculous refusal to shop somewhere that employs gay people".
Or maybe I just misunderstand that verse. Maybe if we let what and Who we stood for be our witness then there wouldn't be much confusion over which label a person ought to use.

Christian music and Christian Stations are in the same boat. I told a girl once that I really didn't listen to Christian radio. I am sure that she checked her pockets to see if she had a "Four Spiritual Laws" tract so I would come to Jesus and change my radio presets.

The God Who Smokes by Timothy J. Stoner. Yes, I get it. "Smokes" by Stoner. Hardy Har Har!

I didn't write the book or give the author his last name. However I did give the book to a couple of people because it flat out challenges the read to stop imposing their view of what a deity ought to be like on God and instead let God impose his view of what humanity ought to be like on Christ followers.

My favorite chapter is "The God Who Lets You Drop". It reminded me that God is not obligated to catch me when I fall. When He does catch me, it is because he loves me, not because he is forced to.

I have been thinking a lot about God's grace lately. I have also been thinking about His holiness. I like His grace, but His holiness scares me. Then God began putting on my heart that His grace is an expression of His holiness because it is one of those attributes that truly sets Him apart. God continues to become more and more awesome to me. I'm sick. I'm loved.

Wayback when... I heard a preacher, who was not using an iAnything, just the Bible, and it wasn't even electronic. He was so out of touch he probably drank coffee that only had one word in the name of it, and it probably cost him less than $5 for a cup of it. But, speaking to a group of preachers, he made the point that the difference between a preacher and an entertainer in the pulpit was this; An entertainer desires to be seen. A preacher desires to be heard. The iPad in the iPulpit says I want the attention on me. I honestly want better stuff for my audience. I want their attention on God and what He has to say to them. Leave the gadgets and toys at home and just bring the message.

I too am a "silver medal" minister. My shout out is for my fellow "silver medal" minister Shaun Jones who continually challenges me to be the best follow of Christ I can be. I am thankful for him and how God uses him in my life and in the lives of students and adults alike.
