EXACTLY! It was just accepted.. Then when they decided to put the light rail in down there it was suddenly a big deal. I think they are now being forced to deal with a problem they created and even facilitated to some extent.

It's been this way there since the 80's. I was raised in the Rainier Beach area and remember it well. In fact, I'll never forget it. It's just getting attention now because well to do white people looking for less expensive housing are starting to move in and are amazed at what they find. The problem is a lot deeper than just income, I'll tell you that much.

The city leaders and police force have been ignoring it for decades. I remember one time we called the police to report a woman screaming at the top of her lungs, "Help, he's going to kill me.. help.. help!" The call was placed around 11pm and we went back to sleep figuring they'd handled it. The 911 operator called back at 4am to ask us if the lady was still screaming because they were finally preparing to dispatch a patrol unit. Go figure.

Why does the article completely leave out the reason for the acquittal? Seems a little biased, like we are supposed to believe this guy just "got away with it." Obviously the jury thought there was plenty of reasonable doubt... so what was it?!?!

I should also point out that the section was eliminated the next year, but was definitely there in 1992 (my first year there).

Nope, I mean 1992. Granted, it was only "allowed" for those seniors who were 18 already, but that's not the point.

No, but seriously, how about both the mom and the school district wise up? When i entered High School in 1992, we had smoking sections. Now kids can't even apply sunscreen without a note? Are we turning into the nanny state here or what?
