Methinks the bellwhether of any campaign that accepts a Tuohey 'pitch', needs to be placed in the sights.

In retrospect, (that means I didn't see it coming either, although my radar was getting itchy), I think Micheal is on to something.
I noticed in Mr. Hoffmann's remarks the last day, that he was addressing the national audience. Makes sense, he was getting national attention.
But all politics are local. IOW's, outside assistance is welcomed and necessary in this case, but the candidate needs to stay focused.
Just a note, I do remember that when I grew up there, there was an aversion to 'outside agitators'.
Coupled with the fact, that getting independents in the North Country to cozy up to the inside baseball of a Republican Party in disarray could be problematic. Add to that, the ~10,000 absentee ballots in a ~100,000 ballot race, along with 'stuck' voting machines in precincts (Fulton County) favorable to Mr. Hoffmann, this race could be closer than it first appears.
The lessons learned will be implemented within a few short months, when we ALL do this all over again.

That matters not. This coalescence of normal people, just needs to keep their eye on the ball and keep doing what they're doing.
The best way to counter the day to day antics of the opposition's ground game, is with continued strength in numbers,on the ground as well. We have the advantage of being able to think and act, without marching orders, scripts, and payment from the redshirt's home office. They of course, in union fashion, will not.
On election days themselves. Poll Watchers, Poll Judges, and transportation folks become critically important. These are excellent opportunities to volunteer for.
Any of us with ties to NY 23 need to help as we can. Phone calls matter.
I got a call, mentioning the Dems were soliciting for a rally in Syracuse. That's not in NY 23, but adjacent to it. The Central city does have an airport and more TV cameras though

Mr. Tuohey failed to mention that Br. Buchanan also ran as an Independent in '96, from the ballot spot generated via '92 campaign.
That my friends, is also the key. Much has changed since then, and both 'sides' made darn sure the next 3rd Party movement would be an exercise in futility, at the National level.
So yes, the end game would be to a coalescence within a section of the existing duopoly at the national level. While helping all we can in races like NY 23.
Yeah, the RNC have every incentive in the world to hope we go away. It's like Barry disparaging Fox News.
The more people that learn the truth... is their problem.

I grew up in NY 23, and spent the weekend phoning home. My suggestion would be to burn up the email and social networking accounts to get in touch, with any folks you know in the area.
Many of you may be getting the ubiquitous 2010 Congressional Surveys from the RNC. I'm taking a page out of Abby Hoffman's 'Steal This Book', and using their Postage Paid envelope to express my dissatisfaction with their NY 23 candidate. Abby recommended weighting down such Postage Paid's (with bricks) so the point would ring home. BTW, Abby the 60's activist extraodinaire, was finally caught and arrested in NY 23, in the 'burg next to DeDe's home town, There are plenty of folks their, that lean to the right of the Interlopers from the City.
