My bib # for Boston is 10914. My plan now is to run it strong, but for fun. Although if I'm feeling the "eye of the tiger" on race day I might go for a PR (previous PR is 3:28 from Portland 10.10.10). On 4/10 I'm running a trail relay race...my two legs total 13.6 miles. Used this as justification to get the Newton trails shoes, so I'm excited about that.
Thanks again...you guys are awesome!

Such a good episode, thank you! I appreciate your honesty about stress and eating. I think that is true for a lot of people, including myself. I'm about 7lbs heavier than my last race weight, but that's all due to muscle (swimming and lifting). Its great, don't get me wrong, but its an adjustment to be bigger and have clothes fit differently, like you said. So the Bare Buns Run is a trail race, about half of which is on gravel. I'll definitely wear shoes! I'm with Stevie...LOVE my Vibrams for the gym, but I'm so happy in Newtons I'm not eager to mess with it for road running. Allan - I seem to remember you have a pair you bought an an Expo? Do you like them? Brandon's podcast got me into Newtons, and I can't imagine running in anything else. The triathalon I'm signing up for has a lake swim....just a few miles from my house. So I can go do some open water practice swims over there.

Glad you're back on mondays! Thursday (its 5pm out here on the West coast) I'm at the kid's Tae Kwon Do class so I can't listen live. Looking forward to getting back on the live chat.
Vitasorb sounds pretty awesome. Occasionally my stomach bugs me on long runs, and daily yogurt helps, but considering your success with this product it sounds worth giving a shot. I did buy some Stuffits, by the way and LOVE them.

Thanks, Brandon. There are no lifeguards at 24 hour fitness, but I could talk to one of the trainers if there is an issue. There is one guy in particular, who will not share because as he told me "his flip turns start on the right and he pushes off on the left." Do you know why he does this? All other swimmers I see flip turn straight in and straight out again. Something I'm working on as well, but truthfully not very efficient at yet! I have had people ask to circle swim, but usually what I say is "I'm afraid I would just be in your way because I am pretty slow." Generally they will then agree to split the lane. I wanted to know circle swim etiquette so I could do it next time it comes up. Thanks for explaining...and good point about discussing what each person is doing. I'm often doing drills or intervals, and not always just continuous laps.

Hi Allan & Stevie-

I for one hope you podcast forever! I enjoy your show and always learn something :) I will call, too, from Boston. Pre and post race. This week is my last long run before the race. Looking forward to it.

I'm going to finally put my money where my mouth is and register for a sprint distance tri in August. I'm incredibly nervous, but its a very local race, and the course is along my usual running route. I'm also registering again for the Bare Buns Fun Run 5k (7/10)...gotta defend my title! I'm trying to recruit some runner friends this time. We'll see. Its not for everyone, although I was nervous last year and it turned out to be not a big deal at all.

Thanks,
Rebecca :)

Currently I'm training for Boston (my 2nd, my husband's first...yay!). The week before Boston I'm doing a 50k trail relay (my teammates let me have the shorter legs, so my total mileage is about 9 or so). The training is going mostly well (I did have a little minor setback/injury a few weeks ago but I'm okay now.) I've been swimming a lot in the past 8 mos. and finding that is the very best cross-training I have done. My increased upper body and core strength make the end of long runs much easier, not to mention easy swim days seem to be great for recovery. Keep up the good work and thanks again!
-Rebecca :) sorry...had to continue b/c it was too long

Hi Allan & Stevie - good podcasting today, thanks! Allan - I'm wondering if/what you are listening to when you are on the elliptical for so long? Podcasts or music? Both? Just curious. Also, thanks for the swim talk. Sometime would you please talk a little about form? Brandon did a show on this topic awhile back and it was incredibly helpful. You seem like a very good swimmer and as a newbie its helpful to hear more experienced swimmers talking about drills, form, etc. Stevie - I have had great success doing my tempo runs on the treadmill. I can definitely sustain a faster pace longer than I can outside, and these runs have "trained" my legs to accept greater turnover for longer periods. I've noticed that doing a 60 min. tempo run once a week has a big effect on my other training runs. It isn't the most "fun" workout, but its short, and the getting through the boring-ness of the treadmill has helped me mentally on longer runs.

Thanks for the shout out and another great podcast! That race got me thinking about body image and how popular culture can distort our perceptions of ourselves. Being around a group of such welcoming, accepting folks was refreshing and a good reminder to always keep an open mind about new experiences, and the importance of getting out of my comfort zone. Allan - your triathlon talk has inspired me to start swimming. Congrats on your accomplishments. I think you guys are fantastic!
