Big Government : Romney: 'I'm Not Concerned About the Very Poor, We Have a Safety Net There''

My thoughts EXACTLY. I'm not happy at all with Mitt. (I like Newt better - he actually did demonstrate fiscal responsibility in the 1990s.) But if we can get the Senate & keep the House, and I think we have a good chance to, then Mitt will have "go along to get along".

Big Government : Of Course: Maryland Dem Gov Calls for Big Tax Hikes

Ah yes, forgot Montgomery County. If it wasn't for the fact that all my family and friends live here, as well as half of my husband's family and the fact I've got a great job, I'd be leaving. But VA is under consideration for retirement in 18 - 20 years.

If it wasn't for PG County and Baltimore City, this would be a red state. But like many other states, the populated areas with the politically, economically uneducated voters out number the conservative, educated voters.

Big Government : Herman Cain Is 'Reassessing' His Campaign

I think that’s exactly what they (be it the Dems or the RINOs) want you to think. So many accusers…where there’s smoke there is fire. I don’t buy any of it. NTM, were where all these women when Cain ran for Senate in 2004 and before he started topping the polls? To me, the coincidence is that they all came out from the same period of time and all at once. Until I see something concrete, I ain’t buying it.

(Thank you for being gracious. A lot of your brethren aren’t. I hope we DON’T see you there. Winning three times over the Steelers will be extremely difficult, but we have a better shot at M&T. Heck, the networks want us to meet again. It’s the best rivalry in the NFL.)
You can easily see that these allegations are false if you back up and look at them logically. Why are all these women that accuse him only from his time at the NRA? What about his lenghty careers at the Dept of Navy, Pillsbury, Burger King and Godfathers? Text messages without the actual texts and phone calls prove nothing. If he's calling her at 4 AM, it's obvious they aren't together physically. And who called who? Where are all the expensive gifts? And if Accuser #2 claims that Cain groped her in the car, why the heck would she allow him to drive her home? For someone who's such a conspiracy nut, you can't see the conspiracy here?

Ask yourself this. Why is it that all these women coming out with these allegations are from the 1 1/2 years at the National Restaurant Association? If he's a cheater and harasser, then shouldn't women also be coming out from his (more lengthy) time at Dept of the Navy, Pillsbury, Burger King and Godfathers Pizza? Funny that they are ALL coming out from that 1 1/2 years at the NRA (that IIRC, has a connection to some prominent Democrats).

Off topic, but what kind of parents name their kid after a spice? Sage? Seriously? I'm sure his sister's name is Cumin. Or maybe Cayenne. If he has a brother, he's probably either Thyme, Nutmeg or Dill. No wonder the kid is a liberal.

You're safe around the Inner Harbor and probably 4 or 5 blocks north. I've worked in Baltimore City for 17 years and have never had a problem. That being said, wonder away from these areas and you could find yourself in a heap of trouble. I'm sure some of those sirens are due to "issues" at the Power Plant Live area (bars). Lots of drunken idiots there any given night.

Big Government : Maryland Health Group Pushes Cigarette Tax Hike

BeeKay, Maryland is a beautiful state. We have an ocean 2 hours away and the mountains 90 minute away. Montogomery and Prince Georges counties have rents as high as NoVa. Besides the aforementioned counties and Baltimore City, the rest of the state is wonderful. Unfortunately, due to those 3 areas, the democrats have more votes than the rest of the state (which is more red than blue).

Big Government : Congress Passes 3 Free Trade Deals

Not discussed is that it also reinstates GSP (Generalized System Preferences, which gives reduced or zero duty rates for favored Countries of Origin) and increase the MPF (Merchandise Processing Fee) from .21% to .3464. So, we are reducing the duties for some Imports but increasing the MPF for all Imports. New revenue for the government, higher prices for firms that Import products into the US, which most likely, will be passed onto the consumer. That being said, it will create jobs here in the US. Exports will go up, increasing the need for freight forwarders, Customs brokers and others that deal in this industry. My company is hiring and has been for quite some time. NTM, programmers like me will be needed to make all the changes needed in the systems that companies use to process their shipments. (I've already written one report for a big, well-known customer that wanted to know how much the new MPF will cost them. In their case, almost $130,000 for shipments they've done YTD.)

I seriously doubt any private insurance practice would tolerate $60 BILLION in waste and fraud. I do know that admin costs are lower: (http://healthaffairs.org/blog/2011/08/09/is-medicare-more-efficient-than-private-insurance/) and I do know that Medicare turns down more claims than private insurance (http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/physician-resources/solutions-managing-your-practice/coding-billing-insurance/heal-claims-process/national-health-insurer-report-card/denials.page?) I agree with you regarding the cost. Something has to be done and ObamaCare does nothing to fix that. We need to return to basic, catastrophic insurance that just covers "the biggies" (like it did in the 70s) and have consumers pay for everything else using HSAs/FSAs. (The current system is like having auto insurance that covers oil changes.) Require doctors to list pricing and allow consumers to do what they do best...shop for the best price. Tort reform for "pain and suffering" needs to be capped. That will bring down the "defensive medicine" that doctors currently practice. (I know this first hand from a friend who is an ER doctor.)

Oh hell no! That's one of the DC "ghettos" and does not represent the rest of MD at all. If you are every in MD, you need to visit Annapolis, Fells Point (Baltimore City) and/or Ocean City. MD's section of I-95, I-695, I-97 and I-295 have all had major projects completed recently. More lanes, no potholes. Unfortunately, the traffic still sucks.
