Thanks Moo. I wonder of Cartoon Network owns "The Last Starfighter" or something?

I have a black friend who does modeling and had the same thing happen to him, but in the opposite directon, he was told he was not 'ethnic' enough for the job, so I'm not surpised by this.

First of all, I Read S:M 20 years ago, so my memory may not be perfect. I did like it, I even read Electric Undertow and was waiting for the promised sequels. That said, I was not referring to the characters themselves, but the setting itself. Bleak settings offer the best background for heroic characters. Fighting against overwhelming evil and willing to sacrifice your own life for freedom are admirable qualities, but the future itself is bleak unlike the early Legion of Superheroes. I also realize James didn't originate the setting, Peter B. Gillis did. For James it could have been a big break into working for the "Big Guys".
My crack about S:M was more for comedic effect rather than to make a point. My main point was that the new Star Trek doesn't show a bleak future, and that we need more hopeful futures.

Strikeforce: Morituri wasn't bleak :) ? Seriously, I agree, though I think the future shown in the retcon of Star Trek isn't bleak. Even the lighting and white walls on the bridge is cheery and hopeful. We need more Paul Levitz era LoSH.

Yeah it will be a "white-people-slash-military-is-evil " movie, but I think it still looks cool. I'm not going to look for deep meaning, I just want to watch a cool looking sci-fi action movie and eat popcorn.

Wow, I just read about this movie yesterday in an interview Between Roger Ebert and Quentin Tarantino, who likened his "talky" scenes to those of "All About Eve" writer/director Joseph Mankiewicz. What a coincidence:

I watched the movie and thought it was great. The chances of Spoke and Kirk being on the same planet were 1:1 because the events put them both there because Bana's character put Spoke on the planet so he could witness Vulcan be destroyed, and Kirk was shot out of the Enterprise at the same location to get rid of him. Scotty being on the planet was the coincidence, but Star Trek is full of coincidences. And there is also the thought that events, even in alternate time lines, still head towards the same major events because of the momentum of time. How else would Kirk end up becoming the captain of the Enterprise?
