I really believe that the 360 update from a few weeks (the one that changed nothing but was laying "groundwork" for the big update to come) messed with the XBL connection settings. I have never had an issue with XBL until that update and now I frequesntly cant get into game servers and my XBL is just generally A LOT slower. Also I often cant join or create XBL Parties or chat. I really do believe that update did something bad behind the scenes. Also, I noticed that NHL 10 accesses XBL a lot more then it should. It seems to try to be connecting to it all the time... often for no apparent reason. It has made it so that I am unplugging XBL when I play, just to avoid issue (i been getting freeze's when the game cant connect to EA Servers). A lot of people are turning off the new passing controls becasue they are too hard for them. But they REALLY add a lot to the game, especially the cycling and breakout game. The game feels quite different. Quite better in fact. No more SUPER AI knowing exactly how to accept each loose puck without breaking momentum, WAY MORE realistic puck physics, nice/suble differences to the controls... also the BAP Goalie mode is totally revamped with new controls and fell that make it REALLY, REALLY fun. There are tons of minor gripes though... mostly on the part of missing "polish". Truth be told, I really believe that EA screwed the Hockey Devs as far as bidget goes. You know they only get a FRACTION of what all other EA sports games get (despite all the awards) . So I dont think they had time to add the polish. (though the EASHL does have some GREAT new features and their web presence blows Madden's out of the water) Ultimatly when I am playing my 200th or 300th game, I will be thankful that the gameplay was where they put their limited resources into instead of the "polish" but it is frustrating at times. Make it an option in the online menu... Make an option to allow you to choose whether you want to fight only the same control scheme or if you are open to everybody. Also, this is almost a good sign for gaming in general. People will take different side on the DLC Patch argument, but I think it opens up some avenues for developers.... What if the stick only controls were really great and made the game amazing (ala NHL07)? Wouldnt the experiment of a button-less scheme be worth it? Yes, but probably not without the ability to patch it later. Basically it allows the Dev's to be more bold, to try new things. We may be the biggest fan base in all mediums, but there is little arguing that we are also one of the hardest to please. Often times the bold risky move will pay off, other times it wont, but if you can fix it, then it takes a lot of the risk away. The key thing moving forward is that you try to build the game in a way that patches will be able to work. No small task, but one that will (or at least should be) figured out soon enough.
