This team will win no Big Ten games this year. The only one that could be close would be Penn State in Iowa City. Canning Lipstick would cost # million plus. Not canning him will cost 3 million in lost ticket sales plus another 2 million in concessions not to mention the irreperable damage caused to the program.. Saw Gary Barta stopped at a traffic light today. Light changed to green and he didn't move. When asked why? Replied he was waiting for a special shade of green.
Things improve from year to year if the players stick around to improve. When you run off your players, which Licpstick has done now for 3 straight years, there is no improvement. The only thing doing more damage to the BB program than the coach is the A.D who is either dead or just stupid
WHY NOT JUST TURN IN YOUR MEDICARE CARD. IF IT WAS REALLY SO DISGUSTING YOU WOULDN'T BE USING IT. I DIDN'T SEE ANY COMPLAINTS FROM YOU WHRN BUSH WAS SPENDING 10 BILLION A MONTH ON HIS IRAQ WAR. THE NEW HEALTH BILL WILL COST LESS PER YEAR THAN BUSH'S WAR COST IN TEN MONTHS. WE HAVE 48000 PEOPLE PER YEAR WHO HAVE NO HEALTH INSURANCE. LETS SPEND SOME MONEY TO HELP PEOPLE INSTEAD OF KILLING THEM. LASTLY THE DEFICIT FOR THIS YEAR INCLUDES THE 800 BILLION BUSH APPROPRIATED FOR THE TARP PROGRAM.
Improvement requires building on a base. This guy runs off (or turns off) his best players every year. Every year is a year just like the prior one. No progress is made, in fact each succeeding team is worse than the prior team and that is so because each year turns off more new recruits. In another year or two of Lick, no one, not even a first rate coach will be able to recruit here. No doubt what is holding up his release is not wanting to pay out his contract. Letting him stay and the damage to the program that will cause, will end costing far more than buying him out. Let an assistant handle the rest of this year. They wouldn't win a Big Ten game this year if John Wooden was coaching them.
Sad to say , but the head man takes the heat for the failings of his players. It's just another of the duties of coaching. In some places, incidents like this are just overlooked. Usually that's where there are winning programs. This coach has to go NOW. It wont matter if an interim coach finishes out the year. This team will not win a Big Ten game this year anyway. If Lick stays there this whole year the program will be in such a hole even hiring a big name coach wont let it recover in less than 5 years.
He is a one deminsional coach who runs off his best talent every year. What is the point of giving this guy more time? If Barta is waiting until even Liks mother will agree with firing him, it shouldn't take much longer. I suspect the bitter pill is having to pay his salary for the rest of his contract. Believe me, that will be a drop in the bucket compared to what this guy will cost the program in revinue and a pittance compared to the long term damage he has cost and will cost the program.
You hit the nail squarely on the head. first job, fire Barta. Second job, hire a new A.D. First job of new A.D. , fire Lick.
IT WOULD BE SMART TO LET THE SCHEDULE REMAIN UNCHANGED. tHE FEWER PEOPLE WITNESS THIS EMBARESSING TEAM THE BETTER.
I REPEAT MYSELF, FIRE BARTA AND THE NEW A.D.'S FIRST JOB IS TO FIRE LIPSTICK. IF THIS GUY IS ALLOWED 2 MORE YEARS, JOHN WOODEN WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO RECRUIT AT IOWA, THE PLACE WILL HAVE SUCH A REPUTATION.
tHE INITIAL MISTAKE WAS HIRING LICHLITER IN THE FIRST PLACE AND GOD FORBID GIVING A 7 YEAR CONTRACT. THE SUGGESTION THAT HE NEEDS MORE TIME NOW IS RIDICULOUS. HE DOESN'T RECRUIT WELL AND WHEN HE GETS A PLAYER OF VALUE HE RUNS THEM OFF. THE A.D. SHOULD BE FIRED NOW AND THE FIRST DUTY OF THE NEW A.D. SHOULD BE TO FIRE LICHLITER. EVEN IF IT TAKES PAYING OUT HIS CONTRACT THAT WOULD BE CHEAP COMPARED TO THE SHAMBLES HE WILL LEAVE THIS PROGRAM IN 4 MORE YEARS. THIS TEAM WILL NOT WIN ONE BIG TEN GAME THIS YEAR. IN 50 YEARS OF WATCHING THE HAWKS THIS IS THE WORST COACHED TEAM I'VE SEEN. I FEEL SORRY FOR THE PLAYERS.
