Using your logic, agreed with your picks Mike; they shouldn't pick before Oct. 1st anyway. Sat. will be big day for Fla. at Tenn; they have the talent same as last year, but coaches hold them back; Spurrier would be scoring 45 - 50 easily with this group of playmakers. If the Iowa coaches let the players play this weekend, we may surprise; Arizona isn't that good and we have a good solid blue collar team.

God was with him and the other driver! Accidents will happen, that's why they call them accidents; all the helmets and precautions in the world will not stop accidents; it just wasn't his time; THANK GOD, EVERYTHING TURNED OUT OK! He certainally has the right attitude about life; a wonderful young man. Collisions in the trenches will be nothing from now on; that's the bright side!!!

From what I have seen paid to coaches lately; it is a very fair contract and he being a true and honest gentleman recognizes it and accepted it; I'm quite sure he will live up to its expectations; his family is now set for the next 10 years and beyond if he invests wisely!! Now he can concentrate on football in a relaxed manner!

That's the problem; you will always have a few jerks to contend with; but why must we fuel these jerks with more bravado and disruptive ways; let alone endangering game personnel and innocent fans with young children attending! It's a sporting event, not an Oktoberfest! Thankfully, I no longer attend these over-priced- over-hyped events any longer and stay comfortable at home; but to each his own; so if you enjoy- - - enjoy!!!

The problem is it's always about money; not what's best for the people. Unfortunately, the beer and alcohol industries are the only ones capable of spending large amounts of money for advertising and as long as we have alcoholics and irresponsible people attending games there will always be problems. Common sense is no longer the name of the game; it's now called GREED!

Great column, but it makes too much common sense and not enough evil money to be made with no booze; so they will continue the presnt status quo with a little relief thrown in to try to pretend helping the normal good citizens who go with family to enjoy a day out and hope they aren't dodging beer cups, rowdie fans, urination in public, etc. For the good of the sport and everyone else, they should eliminate all types of liquor in and around the park; and while they are at it, do away with athletic scholarships which have nothing to do with education! Good Luck!! As for me, I stopped going to games years ago; didn't need all the hassle as well as the expense.

How many athletes now-a-days are able to carry on an intelligent conversation or say anything really news-worthy! All you get is a lot of you know, you know or unintelligible prate and the questions aren't much better. How most of these athletes get to college is a miracle in itself, not what they say; no wonder the coaches keep them off limits; they would supply unnecessary fodder for the opponents. For the few exceptions, they are able to handle the press because of good home training and they are "qualified" college students. Is what is going on with the sport agents a surprise to anyone? And it will get worse!

Don't know much about Ryan Donahue and his punting, but any player who can get his team out of a deep hole is truly an asset. While I would like my players to be more than one dimensional; if they are that good so be it!There aren't too many Ray Guys in this world. Trouble with most punters is they are looking for show rather than results; I think Ryan is a team player and certain ally he will help Iowa this year!

There are certain things in life which are meant to be preserved and cherished, such as the St. Andrews golf course; it makes us all richer by having done so! We only go around once in life, so we should try and accomplish as much as we can even though we can't master everything! Being a sportswriter you have been lucky to see and cover many distinguished events thru the years; they will remain in your memory for a lifetime and give you many pleasant thoughts in the future! To stop traveling and being inquisitive is to stop living; live your life with GUSTO!!! Way to go!!

I never had a problem with Steinbrenner, perhaps because I have been a Yankee fan for over 65 years from the DiMaggio era onwards!
He dealt within the rules to put a winning product on the field; if that meant spending money , he did it; you can't argue the results! George wasn't always a rich owner; his ship building business in Ohio went bankrupt and his ship[ building business in Tampa, Fla. just managed to stay afloat' but with some slick maneuvering managed to make the Yankees what they are today! His ego was almost too big for his body; b ut he was always a winner! He loved being in the spot light and being the "BOSS" and that is something he did well! His detractors were those who couldn't match him and were obviously jealous and envious of his success! From the mid 60's to the mid 70's, the Yankees were not going anywhere; then George kind of resurrected the team and they have been a force ever since! RIP George from this long time Yankee fan!
