I'd like to throw in two other films at opposite ends of Karloff's career: Howard Hawks' gangster classic "Scarface" (1932) as a rival to Paul Muni Peter Bogdanovitch's "Targets" (1968) as an aging horror film star oh, and one more, "Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff"

No offense to the great Raymond Massey, but it is one of the misfortunes of film history that he, rather than Karloff, played Jonathan in the Frank Capra version of "A & OL".

Some of Abbott and Costello's moster films were made in the 50's as were some of Vincent Price's classic like "The Fly". But "A & C Meet Frankenstein" is from 1948 and the famed Universal Monster Movies are from the early 30's through the 40's. And they did scare people when they came out. They are still quite fun for their unique atmosphere.

Hear, Hear! I do hate this song. It nearly ruined the movie "The Killing Fields" that showed communist retraining camps preaching against religion and property rights to cut to a song that was preaching the very same sermon. Sadly, the film makers were not being ironic.

My top five Gene Kelly films: 1) Singin' in the Rain (and in my all time-any kind top five films) 2) On the Town (New York becomes a "wonderful" rather than a "hell of a") 3) The Pirate (The Nicholas Brothers make it a rare film where Kelly doesn't do the most awesome dancing in the film) 4) Anchor's Away (Jerry the Mouse does fine work in this film) 5) Take Me Out to the Ballgame (hmmm 3rd film with Sinatra...Busby Berkely directed this one) (Don't have the Best Picture winning American in Paris in my top Five... the long ballet at the end kind of bores me, sorry to say)

Brilliant stratigery. Maybe Detroit can be saved if new models aren't released to rental companies for like a couple of months, so people will buy them instead. This will so work, because Hollywood is releasing such great stuff that people are going, "Oh, I must see it in the theater...No, I will wait...Until it is released on DVD...I will wait a couple of months....But I can't wait for those few more weeks until it is available for rental...Must buy now!"

Obviously you don't listen to Rush, because his has spoken for years how he became a Steelers fan when he worked on radio in the area in the 70s and has spoken about them with affection through the years. But you're not alone because there are a lot of people these days talking about what Rush says who have no idea of what he says. Though when a caller mentioned the Steelers on his show today, he said "Steelers? Who are they?")

I'm sorry, I just find this idea a bit silly. When certain churches decided a few years ago to boycott Disney, they didn't exactly bring the company to its knees. Which was okay with me, because although the company was sponsoring some truly obnoxious films through Miramax, they also provided some wonderful products through Pixar and there theme parks that brought delight and memories to my kids. Rush himself has always been a sceptic about the worth of boycotts. I'm a regular Rush listener. I'm also a 49ers fan. I'm not about to give up either, because of the petty smears of Al Sharpton.

I feel badly for Adam Baldwin for often being mistaken for Alec Baldwin's brother. Of course, I feel even worse for Stephen Baldwin. (And yet I love "30 Rock", "Hunt for Red October", "Glen Gary Glen Ross", and much of Alec's other work. Like him much better when someone else writes what he says.)
