Because of family connections with a nearby kibbutz, I knew Tantura as an idyllic beach for many years. Except that it was more often called Nachsolim, because that was the name of the kibbutz with a guest house, right next to the beach.

Eventually it occurred to me to investigate why older residents called it Tantura and I felt so guilty at enjoying the sun and sea on the site of a massacre.

Read the eyewitness accounts here: http://www.palestine-studies.org/enakba/Memoirs/A...

One small positive point is that the killings were stopped by the arrival of the head of the Jewish town of Zikron Yaakov. The long established Jewish settlements in that area had (as far as I heard) pretty good relationships with their Arab neighbors. To this day the town of Furaydis (to which many survivors went from Tantura) sems to coexist reasonably well. You can stop and buy their produce from stalls along the old Haifa-Tel Aviv road. Though no doubt there are many things underneath the surface.

Posting questions here gives the leaders a chance to prepare the usual bland responses. I've submitted mine by email!

I live in Cardff, the capital of Wales. Yesterday morning, I viewed an excellent small exhibition of photos from Afghanistan by Guy Smallman. Alongside was a stand with materials about Bradley Manning. These exhibitions were in our City's public Central Library.

In the evening, I watched a live stream of the sold-out play 'the Radicalisation of Bradley Manning' being performed in one of our city's schools by the National Theatre of Wales. (Bradley had a Welsh mother and spent some years in school here). It will be streamed again tonight. See here: http://wiseupforbradleymanning.wordpress.com/

Not forgotten here.

If you can get one of the tables on the small terrace in front of the Gwaelod-y-Garth, you've got access to good food and beer and great views across the Taff valley. In fact, you can see out of Cardiff as this pub is near the edge of the City.
See, I'm sticking to the rules, maybe those who recommend pubs in Cogan (Vale of Glamorgan) and Caerphilly etc consider them as part of Greater Cardiff.

As reported in the Echo, I thought the normally sensible Cardiff Civic Society had thrown a wobbly. We're in the middle of a recession, Wales is lagging behind the UK, and they want to stop private traffic from coming into the business zone of Wales' biggest city?

But now I've read the green paper, I see there are PHASES proposed of which the congestion charge is the last.

Who knows, if the other phases are completed, it might be feasible.

Certainly complete the A4232 - and a link from Western Avenue to the A4232. Put in place a decent and integrated transport system and we could use our cars less. More carrot, less stick.

It works in London because they have a fantastic integrated transport system, with one electronic form of payment for all the tfl services (tube, bus etc).

It's definitely a minor element in deciding for whom to vote, and largely 'for amusement' - BUT I do see an important issue behind such gross errors in party poliitical material.

If I make a mistake in a late-night personal blog, or a quick comment (it does happen) - OK.

But if an organsiation is going to print and distribute many thousands of leaflets, it should have a robust process of proof-reading and spell-checking. Multiple errors in one document suggests a poor level of organisational ability, and that is a relevant matter for electors.

While I would love the application for judicial review to be granted and the decision to be subsequently overturned (two separate steps), the article does not make it clear why RREEL thinks the Council's decision to refsue 'village green' status was unlawful, as opposed to just being unpopular locally, which is not illegal in itself.

Typical grounds for judicial review to overturn a decision are Illegality, Irrationality (Unreasonable or Unfairness) or Procedural Impropriety.

It seems clear that the Council had the legal right to make the decision, and they say they followed the standard procedure and took independent and qualified legal advice. So are RREEL basing their appeal on "Irrationality"? Can someone from the group explain the exact legal argument that they are putting forward?

Thanks to the positive review in the awards, I tried the Ship inn, Efail Isaf (or Llantwit Fardre if you prefer) and we had a great 3 course meal, including a bottle of wine between two, for £15-95 each on Valentine's night! I've already booked again.

I just found this 'mapped' page - very useful, but the Ship is shown about a mile away from where it actually is. This is because you have the wrong address, the postcode should be CF38 1BH.

I also note that this page will not display in IE8 browser, but works in Chrome.

(previous comment continued)... In a fairly quick search of the WAG and National Assembly web sites, I have identified at least 52 such positions to be shared between the 60 AMs.

Perhaps, though, I should have said ""AMs whose salaries and other benefits have expanded over the years", rather than "continue to grow" as I can see no evidence of growth since the referendum was announced.
