I'm not sure what diversity in myth and legend has to do with whether people surround themselves with, and live according to the "guidance" of, myths and legends. Whether each person is able to choose on their own, or must follow with the crowd, it's still a dismissal of demonstrable fact and logic in favor of mysterious, unprovable explanations.

As for Heinlein's observation, do you suppose that is a statement against science? You put "advantage" in quotes, presumably for a reason. Yet science and Heinlein's point go hand-in-hand. It is religion that (generally speaking) presents itself as the answer, to which no challenge may be brought (especially against religions that present the notion of hell, to which challengers will presumably be banished). Science is virtually predicated on Heinlein's point -- that there is always more to learn, so let's keep learning, even if it means overturning centuries of accepted theory.

This is something that those with weak backgrounds in science fail to grasp -- as is often evidenced by comments about scientists "proving" things (or some myth-supporting anecdote "disproving" a scientific theory). Science is about learning, not "proving." If there is a study that indicates "Substance A will cure cancer," the media and general population will refer to that as a cure -- but the medical science community will refer to it as an interesting study that needs to be examined and tested. Unlike the myths and legends closely followed in modern societies, science is not about presenting definite answers that must not be challenged.

This guy has a wife and kids -- he's not in a dorm. I think a distinction needs to be drawn between on-campus family housing and the dorms. Those are two very different populations, and two very different environments. I think having guns in college dorms is an awful idea. I think on-campus family housing should be treated like family housing off-campus wrt guns.

Use anti-static dryer sheets. Socks disappear by clinging to the inside of other articles of clothing.

You can't pass through even a small town without passing multiple places of "worship." I'm not sure any distinction can be made between the original tribes around here 300 years ago and modern populations when it comes to living "so much of [life] in myth and legend." It's presumably true that they lacked any significant scientific understanding -- but given how dismissive modern people are about science (*except* the parts that directly benefit them), science within a culture clearly does little to reduce "myth and legend."

Not much you can do to "prepare" for a quake that involves dropping five feet. As for dates and anniversaries, well, that's not how the planet works, that's just for human curiosity.

"Every other penny" is a needlessly cutesy (or sneaky) way of saying that the "store" will take 50%. I think I've seen places that are worse (art galleries), but if you're really willing (or naive) enough to give away half of your revenue for "services" of questionable value, you should probably find someone else to run your business, or just skip it and save yourself the grief. There are vastly better options out there. This one smacks of somebody taking advantage of the emotions of naive inventors.

Humor, human interest... the "news" doesn't always have to be suitable for Don Henley's lyrics ("Dirty Laundry").

Pervert, OK. Stupid, maybe not, given what he was able to accomplish. Then again, people make it easier by not using secure passwords, etc.
