The badassiest character of them all was talking openly and philosophically about the fundamental nature of freedom, the reality of evil, and doing the right things even when it's inconvenient, which includes fighting for that freedom. In the previous movie, that same character actually said, "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings." He might as well have said it's an inalienable right!

I loved the movie. But more than that, I love that it will do more to keep the flame of Conservatism strong in the next generation of fans than just about anything in our culture since Braveheart won Best Picture. I'm disappointed that a website dedicated to promoting and advancing conservatism in pop culture so badly missed that this movie does exactly that.

Strawman, and you know it. One pisses people off, the other creates a risk of imminent death or substantial bodily harm. One expresses a political opinion, the other does not. You don't have to be an attorney to see the vast, vast, vast difference.

If Conservatives can ban flag burning, then liberals can, with the same justifications, ban talk radio. They incited the killing of that abortion doctor, after all - at least that what the idiot hippies claim. Why would you want to go down such a road?

They do it all the time now. I hate it, but then, I hate a lot of things the left does and says. That doesn't mean I want it illegal. The answer is to shed light, not heat - expose them, don't ban them. Shame them! It's far more effective. A bunch of lefties pissing on pictures of soldiers will do more to drive voters to Republicans than all the Colin Powell-esque pandering in the world.

The answer isn't to preemptively criminalize political expression. It's to ensure that the aggrieved parties have a cause of action civily if they can prove harm, which at common law, they could.

"Who gets to decide?" The First Amendment says no one does. The right to express yourself, especially in the political context, even in ways that are vile, is a fundamental, natural right people are born with, and cannot legitimately be abridged by government. Once YOU get to decide where the line is, the next election cycle Barack Obama might get to - and I refuse to give him that much power.

If burning a flag is not a form of protected expression because you choose to read the 1st Amendment narrowly, then neither is blogging - it's neither "speech" nor is there a "press" involved. I'm an originalist in terms of Constitutional and statutory construction, not a textualist, and this is why. Too narrow a reading leads to absurd results.

I'm a vet, and despise flag burners. I have no patience for screwing around with the anthem. And I agree that the fact THIS is protected and political speech is not (thanks, McCain-Feingold) is an outrage, but the answer is to broaden protected expression, not to limit them.

Symbols do matter. Culture matters. But these things' value to Conservatism is that they are VOLUNTARY bindings we put on ourselves to substitute peer pressure for government force. That's how you get a society that's both free and relatively orderly and safe.

It's more courageous because when you take time off from your acting career to work for a Dem, that INCREASES career opportunities later in Hollywood. If you work for a conservative, you're DECREASING the work that will be offered to you. An actor supporting Obama isn't any more courageous than coming out against the kicking of puppies.

I agree with this. He may be a lefty, but you don't get the angry, vitriolic, hypocritical Castro-loving leftist vibe from him.

But his job is to basically be a coordinator between the White House and "the arts." It's an overt propaganda program, it seems to me. As with so much else, you have to wonder what the hippies would say if Bush had hired a popular actor to coordinate with Hollywood in this way.

No, re-read my list. Nothing in your paraphrased list is quite what I outlined in the original post.

As a culture, we can all respect certain universal values, but there are definitely certain ones which are associated with one gender or another. It's not that women shouldn't have those virtues, too, but in the feminized culture of liberalism, those virtues of family, strength, leadership, fatherhood, toughness, and fighting when fighting needs to be done are DE-valued. We are taught they are BAD things. That's the porblem.

Hmmm... You've convinced me. I now also believe that WWII was a colossal failure, knowing as I do that Americans casualties included 418,000 dead, nearly 700,000 wounded, leaving 60 million+ dead in our various theaters of operations, including in Europe where we attacked a country that never attacked us. Since we were (mostly) Christians and the Nazis worshiped only the Religion of the State, and since Bill Maher explains that religion is the source of humanity's ills, I can only conclude ALL of those deaths are to be laid upon our heads. Well, ours and the religious Jews who must have done SOMETHING to deserve those gas chambers.

Congrats. You've gone from merely being a fool to embracing the worst kind of immorality in the name of slamming religion. You've succinctly made the point of the original post.

Thanks for playing. Would you like to change the subject yet again since you keep losing these arguments? Perhaps you can stagger into full blown anti-semetism before you're done...
