"too squeaky clean"? Sounds like a compliment to me! KR Rocks!
I wish you peace and a good experience here in the states, but I recall back in the late 70s how a few dozen Iranian students were happy to be here in Iowa. Today's friend may not be a friend tomorrow.
The wild party you refer to was created for your entertainment. I see parents buying newer cars for their kids, I bought my own at 17 with cosigner parent. Every generation thinks they got a raw deal from the former, ha! We did chores to keep busy and out of trouble. We mowed lawns for petty cash, we shoveled driveways, we delivered papers on our paper routes and more. These kids are used to their high life style Mom and Pop provided. They have yet to learn to sustain it themselves. When I got laid off in 1981, there were not as many avenues from the Gov to help find a job, they gave us cheese. Stay in school, stay out of trouble, work your rear off and you may see some success. It's up to you, no one else.
"our lawyers" not "are lawyers"....its hard to use correct word usage when you're nursing a hangover.
You reaped the benifit of being employed outside of the Iowa bubble, so the lower cost of living comparison is real for you. Our properties have not risen in value like most other areas as well have not fallen (as bad) as other areas. The cost of living mantra is something our employers beat us up with constantly yet pay mid to upper levels according to industry standards, ignoring industry standards of other "classes". You site valid reasons why I have stayed in Iowa, I hate going into Chicago as it is a congested mess but when retirement comes, my numbers will be significantly lower and I'll only have memories of Iowa as it becomes the things many have run away from in bigger cities.
Iowa is a great place to raise kids and have a family. It does come at a price. I know several friends and colleagues who make 50 to 100% more in my chosen field of work. My brothers left Iowa in the late 70s and their incomes are above mine with less skill required. I stayed and at times regret my loss of income but it is Iowa, my home. Many kids grow up in Iowa and leave when they discover they can make substantially more money elsewhere.
What folks wouldn't want a bunch of drunks around their home? Place this "celebration" event on the college property as they receive most of the income from these events. I understand stadium noise, I am not a fan of drunken stuper behavior and people destroying my property and personal liberties right near my home.
How sad! Now we have gunfire in a park I once went to when I was young and CR was Mayberry RFD.....not anymore.
This does not add up at all. 10 years of which he will probably serve 5 to 7 for the death of another human being??? You beat another human to death! You should serve the ultimate penalty, death.
Does anyone know why tickets are issued for tinted windows? It is a safety concern for the Officers, that they can observe you and what you are doing in your car. On a traffic stop you could be hiding your dope, booze, or retrieving a weapon under the seat. It makes their world safer while they serve the public. With the infux of undesireables, I think it's good sense in the world of surviving another day so they, too, can go home to their families.
