What no one has appreciated is someone out there tipped off the FBI to this guy, and that person is currently unknown. It could very well have been someone from his own mosque, whoever it was, that person is a hero because they stopped a very serious individual from doing something very bad and who knows what could have happened if no one spoke up. Even if it wasn't someone from his mosque that saved us, we still want to be their friends because it is exactly this kind of thing we want the peaceful moderate muslims to feel free and trust enough to come to the FBI with stuff like this. Also, this kid is more like a Kip Kinkle more than a real terrorist. A loner angry at the world that wants to throw down in a blaze of glory. Not the first or the last that will come out of Oregon.

Sometimes people amaze me, in this case the OLCC has found that the caffeine was dangerous, but the actual alcohol is not. You can continue to sell 12% alcohol in a 22 oz can, just don't put any caffeine in there. Absurdly concluding the caffeine is bad but the alcohol is not a problem at all.

Future archeaologists will dig sites and observe a predominance of Soviet-era equipment and ordinance left behind, and rarely the footnote of American occupation evidenced by the odd Abrams left behind.

This is not a sign we are winning, this is a sign we are losing. We should be hearing about less firepower, not more. An Abrams does nothing to win heart and mind, in fact its sole purpose is to destroy your heart and mind from a few thousand meters out and then tread right over its charred corpse. Heck, we could have nuked the place a hundred times by now and left a glowing slag heap behind, definitely would make sure the terrorists don't seek haven. This is a failed project and we need to call it a day.

The GOP is possibly better than the democrats at winning elections, but are far less competent at actual leadership. Palin is nothing to sneeze at when it comes to competing in an election, but there is no question that she is incompetent as a leader. Just imagine who she might pick for VP, probably someone with trisomy 21. And to all you that don't like the current President- too bad. Bush was an absolute monster and it may take more than two terms to repair all the damage he did to our country.

It is interesting to try and understand how a stealth fighter dropping off radar is a concern, add being within 150nm of Wasilla and you have hit late-night comedy paydirt. Anyway, Raptor has short legs and Alaska is a big place. Even thinking the pilot landed somewhere outside the US is absurd. #2 we learned something about this so-called 'Stealth' capability. We can track it on our radars, ergo so can anyone else. Maybe not so stealthy after all. #3 we have operational deployment at Elmengork, against what? We have these expensive toys with less of the fighter jock smell in the cockpit patrolling in Alaska against the immenent threat of....what exactly?

Yes. You see folks, we have a social compact with law enforcement. We empower them with the use of force to go after the truly bad guys and to generally preserve order. In exchange an officer gets to carry a gun, in certain circumstances use it, even take a life. Mostly the agreement works as long as the police don't go too far. Yet, sometimes an officer goes too far and we citizens have a responsibility to hold some accountability. Frashour shot an unarmed man in the back, Aaron Campbell did not need to die and because of Frashour a mother has no son, a woman has lost her mate and a little girl has no dad. I'm just glad Frashour got fired so he can't collect unemployment.

What utter nonsense are you talking about? The FAMILY should be held accountable for Aaron's behavior? He was an free adult citizen. By your logic, and given that you agree Frashour is accountable, "as well", then Frashour's Family is also cuplable. See how easy it is to reach absurdity with comments like yours?

Perhaps you have special access to information the rest of don't have, so enlighten us, what crime was Aaron Campbell committing that justfied the shooting? Because according to the information I've seen, and I've read all the documents and reports they released, Police we not called because a crime was in progress, they were called to help an emotionally distraught man. Tell us, specifically what law was he not obeying that justifies the police shooting an unarmed man in the back?

So, are you saying that it is okay for officers to kill unarmed civilians in any circumstance? At what point are you willing to say, "you went too far". Do you want police officers who feel they can behave however they want without any fear of reprimand? One of the things that makes our society 'civil' is that we hold our law enforcement accountable too. This time Frashour went too far killing an unarmed man. Campbell was distraught but that is hardly justification for lethal force.

Firing is no small outcome. Imagine how that looks on the resume, it will be tough to find other police work. While no criminal charges were filed, he will get sued in civil court. Whatever job he finds, there is going to be a garnishment out of every paycheck.

This is not about what your imagination can conjure. This is about facts. The truth is Campbell was unarmed and did not need to die that day. Frashour made a wrong choice firing his weapon, against his training and established procedures. Police officers are invested with a tremendous amount of trust and when they violate that trust, namely to help the distraught Campbell instead of hurt him, we as a society have a similar responsibilty to hold that officer accountable.

I disagree with you. I don't care if you are the Pope, you can't shoot an unarmed man. Emotional distress is not a justification for killing and if you disagree with than, well, you sound a like emotionally distressed....

Correct. The entire situation should never escalated to the level it did, and there was a failure of training and leadership at multiple levels. Ultimately, you nailed it, every officer has a heavy decision to make when pointing a gun at a citizen, and this time, Frashour blew it.

I applaud this decision, Frashour should consider himself lucky he was not charged criminally. There is finally some amount of accountability. I'd say maybe up to 80% of PPD line officers are good people with sound character and wisdom when doing thier job. However PPD does have its share of hot heads that got into the business simply because they like guns and get off on the power trip. Frashour is one of those. My advice to him is to enlist in the Marines because then he can really get his rocks off shootin' folks with some serious firepower, and get medals for it instead of getting fired.
