Santa Barbara County is in the process of starting "Operation Medicine Cabinet" to allow people to anonymously turn in all old prescriptions. The Sheriff's department will then retrieve the drop offs and take them to the drug disposal site with all other illegal drugs slated for destruction. It's a step towards taking the availability of these drugs away from children. It is not a new concept. Many cities are successfully implementing this program and we used their model to initiate ours.

Prescription drugs are just as bad, if not worse than illegal substances, because of their availability. We just lost a young twenty year old friend who was addicted to prescription pain killers and overdosed. It was very sad for our community and unfortunately, there was no focus on how it could have been prevented.
