If all the usual internal motivators fail and the external ones are worn a little thin from overuse - previous high motivational levels can be something to strive to beat. Inciting both competition and motivation. "Let's see if I can have as much (or more) enthusiasm in the middle of x, as I did in the beginning..." I'm all for the second wind!
Oh Steve,
This shouldn't make me giggle, but it did. I just imagined you flapping your arms like you were doing jumping jacks - in a vain attempt to keep cool. The art to fanning either with a program or a real fan is all the same - best demonstrated by a traditional geisha. It only involves a slight movement of your fingers. All the better if multiple people do this, think of the "wave" at a game - it makes everyone feel better.
Four and a half years ago, when the behemoths were but wee pups - wont to zig zag with their noses to the ground in search of the source of so many exciting scents - ignoring me and oblivious to traffic (pedestrian or vehicular) and needing to answer the call of nature at all hours of the day and night - YES, I worried about their visibility and safety. I confess to going to the Rain Shed (in Corvallis) and purchasing long strips of reflective tape to adhere to their flat leashes. I also sewed strips of it together to make a belt (sans trousers) so that more than their eyes could be seen amidst their deep Chocolate bodies. Like Belted Galloways. Thankfully, by the time they outgrew the belts - they were also better willing to heed voice commands and be cognizant of risks outside. Sometimes I am even able to negotiate waiting until light or the fog clears before we venture outside. I am tempted to find another way to broadcast the danger of them accosting strangers to lick them silly though. Dogs, gotta love 'em!
Or a late night desire to fire up the BBQ...

I need dog toys to smell like steak or some other simple way to help my dogs tell the difference between their toys and that of their two-legged sibling. As it stands; If I hold a dog toy in one hand and a baby toy in the other and illustrate my point with a little shake of each toy - they have many similarities. Often both can be chewed on, roll, make noise, be soft or designed to carry. Not only would this help the dogs, but on those late nights when I am picking up after all three for the hundredth time - one sniff and I know for sure whose toy box gets which ones.
I think it is funny (ironic) that the words we aren't supposed to use seem to actually lack meaning today- it is what we associate them with that seems to make them illicit. If I drop an F-bomb in church - is it bad because of the meaning or because I am in church? I admit to not knowing the true etymology (For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge??) of that one or any of the other "cuss" words. I just know that I could probably offend someone better given a whole sentence with real words. Singe word expletives should and do relieve the pressures (physical or otherwise) of the moment.. From the linked blog - where servicemen commented: Allegedly, the military is responsible for most of the acronyms that have been created - which are now used as swear words. In my mind, our military have the toughest jobs in the world and can say whatever they want. Happy 4th!
If you get down to the end of your list, it just means that it is time to start a new one...
Because I read that you aren't planning to retire anytime soon; for the last one - I think you can count mini golf until bucket list #2 (when you actually start to approach getting old).
I wonder what it would be like to live in an era where women weren't fully dressed without a matching hat. These days I mostly consider head gear as sun protection, for warmth or to disguise a bad hair day, with one notable exception. I have a cap that reads, "Life is Good" - I tend to put it on and hope that miraculously (on a not so great day) that the positive message will seep in and change the course of my day. Invariably, the smiles generated when other people read it - does seem to have that effect...
Life is Good!
The Gong Show, in retrospect, got a bit perverted at times. But, it was the 70s afterall. It did inspire me to try to learn to ride a unicycle and to skateboard while doing a handstand - unforgettable moments of my youth. The other aspect of Jeopardy that is cool is how some teachers have implemented that format into a fun way to quiz kids, but I miss Alec's fro from the early days. I would love to go on a game show and now that I wouldn't have to kiss Bob - perhaps Price is Right. I wonder how Oregonians would do on that show, when we shop without a sales tax!?! Wheel had auditions at a Casino on our coast this last year - I wonder if there have been any big winners from Oregon!?! I think the spirit of competition is alive and well in the US, with continous coverage of the Nat'l Spelling Bee.
