I always believed that half the people who consider themselves liberal are really just ill-informed and once they become informed they realize they're not liberal.

Sorry, but McCartney ( and George Martin)was the driving force behind the Beatles success, especially in their later more creative years.
Lennon couldn't read or write music and alot of his words were nothing but incoherent clap-trap.
He admitted this himself.
I'll grant you McCartney wrote too many "silly love songs", but he also wrote some of the most popular songs in rock history, like Hey Jude, Let it be, Yesterday to name a few.

I thought Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon and Edward Norton in American History X were two that were Oscar worthy.
One of the best comic performances that seems forgotten was Kevin Kline in A fish call Wanda, just laugh out loud funny.
