Ralph Fiennes performance is at once mesmerizing and horrifying. I cannot agree more with your assessment. The worst part is that if you read the book "Schindler's List" by Kennelly, you will see that the real man was as sick and evil as the role showed on screen. Nothing was exaggerated.
I would also add a performance that I thoroughly enjoyed, John Candy in "Planes, Trains and Automobiles". He makes me howl with laughter one moment and tear up the next. Beautiful!
Ingmar Bergman? I would rather stick hot, sharp needles in my eyes than even attempt to watch one of his movies all the way through to the end!
I saw "Up" with my 20-year-old daughter in NYC this past summer and I must admit, it was the first movie in years that made me cry. A beautiful story and wonderfully told, this one will be a classic. I can't say I have seen many other movies on John's lists. "Gran Torino" is one that stayed with me long after seeing it, as did "Slumdog Millionaire", which I loved just for the sheer joy and power of the story.
You hit it on the head. This was my worst film of the nineties, by far. I only saw a few of the others - "The Departed" , "Mystic River", and "Pan's Labyrinth". Didn't hate any of them, but really hated LIT. It's a boring, pretentious, muddled piece of tripe.
I would pay to see Robert Duvall read the phone book, so this may be one I may need to check out. It may also be one of the few movies out this year (or next) I could convince my husband to go see with me.
LOVE this idea! Miller would bring not only a depth of knowledge, but lots of laughs in any commentary he would make on movies.
I love the Muppets! My town, Doylestown, PA, recently hosted a retrospective exhibit of Jim Henson's career at the James Michener Museum. It was so much fun to learn about the genius and creativity of a great man, gone too soon. And another talent gone too soon, seen in this clip, John Denver. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas, everyone!
Thanks for enlightening me about Sanchez. I had never heard about his DUI homicide. And let us all remember that before plopping down at CNN, he was on MESSNBC for years. I've always thought he was a laughable dope, but now I realize that he is that and coward who left someone in the street to die.
LOL, he has 2 ears to feed! What a twit Charles is! He needs to go back to his kingdom and play with his paint pots and ponies and leave the rest of us the hell alone!
Agreed - the first movie (notice, I do not use the effete term, "film") I have seen in years that made me cry. Even though Ed Asner is a classic Hollywood leftist, this was a film for all ages and all persuasions. A beautful experience which I shared with my 20-year-old daughter.
