Big Hollywood : The Coming Republican Alamo

I understand the socialism fails argument, but that does not mean that the Dims will lose anytime soon. Most people vote for Dims because of issues beyond economics. The cultural left could care less what the economy is doing. They just want their agenda pushed. The policies of the New Deal failed for a very long time and people kept sending Dimocrats to the White House and Congress. People loved FDR because he "cared," not because his policies worked. The Left has already instituted the idea that results do not matter. By any objective standard, the public school system should have been abandoned as a failure long ago. Yet all we ever hear, from both Repubs and Dims, is that they just need more money. If you try to mess with Social Security, which has failed, people go crazy. To Americans results do not matter, all that matters is good intentions.

I agree. I have been a stalwart Republican for a long time but I am ready to jettison the party. It seems like these days the Republicans are out of ideas and the Dimocrats are out of their minds.

Big Hollywood : Patriot Sweepstakes: Stallone or Tarantino?

We know where Tarrintino will go: gratuitous violence, a mind blowing premise, and at least three scenes that will make you feel really uncomfortable. I can't wait.

Big Hollywood : Why I Took My Family To a Tea Party

All wars are wars of choice. That is the whole point of pacifism. Will you damn Roosevelt for responding to Pearl Harbor? Why did we go to war with Germany? They did not attack us. We could have given into the Japanese and spent our resources building homes of Americans. Did you cry when Clinton took America into Kosovo or Bosina where there were no American interests at stake? Bush spent too much. Conservatives are not denying that and they abandoned him because of it. Still the amount he spent pales in comparison to what Obama is wasting. I am still waiting for you Leftists to explain to me with an A+B=C equation how Bush ruined the economy. All we have is acccusations and hyperbole from the Left. But this is nothing new. The Left never has to prove its points with actual facts. If that was so we would have ended the welfare state in the 70s.

I went to a tea party today. We had a good little turn out. Most of the passers by showed support even though one gentleman told us to where we place our klan robes. The interesting part for me was that there are Americans protesting for less government, fewer handouts, and less regulation. My experiance with Europe shows just the opposite. Europeans will hit the streets over slight cuts in government handouts or demands they work more.

Big Hollywood : Celebutard of the Week: Ron Howard

Ah Cinderella Man was ok. I always thought A Beautiful Mind was overrated. I actually think his best job was Far and Away. It was pre-Tom Cruise flip out. We at least have a period of time before the collapse. If we pay attention, which we probably won't, and if our politicians act prudently, which they won't, we can ease the fall. We are overrun with immigrants, but at least most of the ones who come here at least make an attempt at work.

Howard's movies had mostly sucked anyway. Apollo 13 was good but the Da Vinci Code was ponderous and unwatchable. I can not understand Americans who are ashamed of being Americans. We have it so good in this country that we have lost total touch with reality. What exactly are we suppossed to envy about Europe? Its massive unassimilated and militant Muslims? Its collapsing welfare states? Its moral relativity and weakness in the face of evil? How about the rampant anti-Semitism?

Big Hollywood : Somali Pirates Too PC for Hollywood and Obama

People really need to stop calling Obama a Muslim. He is not. Obama is a secular humanist who joined an anti-American, racist, and radical black church because it was the way to get ahead in the black community in Chicago. People who throw around the Muslim argument are obscuring the real truth.

Big Hollywood : Eat Yer Peas, Drink Yer Milk

No one compared gay marriage to rape and murder. The point was that the demand that all straights show a particulized harm from gay marriage is absurd. It even undermines the argument for gay marriage and all human rights. The argument is that gays are being denied civil rights and that even if it does not effect me, it is unAmerican. Under the particulized harm argument, I should not care if gays are being denied civil rights because it does not effect me directly.

Wow that the the greatest argument I have ever heard. I can sum up your point in one sentence: "Oh yeah, you are gay." Wow, that is quite a way to argue. In answer to your argument is that this is not about being uncomfortable with the sexuality of anyone. You are obscuring the argument with unnecessary issues. This is about changing an institution that is a building block of society in the name of fashion. Again, the heterosexual divorce rate is immaterial to this debate. Maybe 50% of straight marriages end in divorce. It does not logically follow that because of this gays should get married. It raises a question about how to strengthen straight marriages.

You still do not understand. I am talking about the big picture and the redefining of society, Our society is built on the concept of the two parent family. The divorce rate does matter, and it is a symptom of our toxic culture. But it is beyond a doubt that many, if not most of our social problems, are caused by the abscence of two parents in many kid's lives. Still, allowing gay marriage will not fix the problems that we are having in heterosexual marriages. As someone who is advocating a total change in our society, the burden of proof is on you to prove that we would all be better off. As I said earlier, under your logic there is no reason to object to the murder of another as long as it does not happen to you. Racial segregation was not a foundation of our society, It was a large part of some Southern societies, but it was not one of the bedrock principles of American or Western society. In fact, no civilization has been as accepting of different racial groups as American and Western society.

Arguing that one should not oppose same-sex marriage because it does not directly effect you is absurd. Rape and murder do not directly effect you so long as you are not the one being raped or murdered. The reason people care is because we recognize that as a society things like this harm us in ways that are not definite but still tangible. Opposition to same-sex marriage is about the redefining of society's institutions on the whims of a minority. If history has taught us anything it is that you mess with society's institutions and foundations at great peril. The foundation of our society is the two person, male-female, marriage. Are they perfect, no. Still that is not an argument to begin redefining marriage. Once you damage the foundation, the house is doomed to crumble. If two gay men want to form a relationship that is their business. But it steps beyond the bounds of tolerance when they demand society accept their relationship and give it legal sanction. If gays want to get married they should persuade, not bully and litigate.
