And this connects to gas prices ... how?

I agree that gas prices are out of control, but the two big gas-price stories from yesterday (Drudge's $6 gas headline and this World News bit) have two additional issues we need to keep in mind.

First, it's obvious the price of gas changed while the newscast was airing last night. Makes sense, because it was probably between 3pm and 4pm Pacific time, so the price change was occurring just before afternoon rush hour. Most likely, that's when that station changes its prices. Had it changed to one thing at the very start, then changed again during it, that'd be something to report. In this case, the price change was a coincidence with the news story.

Second, the $6 gas in Florida is a known outlier for pricing in that market. The biggest offender, Suncoast Energys (this is their spelling) is a gas station just north of Orlando International Airport, across from two large rental-car return lots, hoping to nail customers in a hurry to fill up their cars before returning them; go north a couple of traffic lights and you find two gas stations (one unfortunately belonging to Hugo Chavez' Citgo) at market price. The other stations mentioned, in Lake Buena Vista, are just outside Walt Disney World. Again, the idea is to catch tourists on the way back to the airport. The funny part is, if you actually go onto Disney property, you'll find gas stations charging the local market rate, as well.

Again, I'm not defending the price increases, and I must admit I'm glad to see the MSM running stories about it, even when they're parroting the talking points that Obama can't do anything about them (despite demanding Bush do anything/everything in 2008).

According to Wikipedia (this bit is sourced, so it's probably legit), Fiat owns 58.5% of Chrysler Group, LLC. I've been referring to it as "the American marketing arm of Fiat" since they took it over. So yeah, I've been wondering that myself.

Of course, I've also been wondering why they promote the Chrysler 300 as being "Imported from Detroit" when it's built in Ontario, Canada and the ownership is in Turin, Italy.

I like his statement near the end when he demands to be given credit for the things the Justice Department has done right during Obama's tenure. I would agree that Justice has done some things right, just as a broken clock is right twice a day. It reminds me most of some words a former employer said ... "you can have all the compliments and 'atta-boy's and 'heckuva-job's you want, but one 'oh $h!t" wipes them all out."

Makes me wonder if he's actually following the Australian Open on those screens. I've seen tennis matches where spectators move their heads less, though.

When will someone tell the Occutards that we are a constitutional republic and not a democracy? They may want to show us "what democracy looks like", but our Founders knew what it looked like. It wasn't pretty then, and it sure as hell ain't pretty now. That's why the word "democracy" doesn't appear once in either the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution.

Minor correction ... Robert Davi appears in "Licence to Kill", not in "The Living Daylights." Great post, just the same ...

Wonder how long until Time Warner gets a nasty-gram from the White House explaining that TBS' corporate sibling, CNN, won't be getting that many interviews with Obama this election year because of Conan's bit of comedy? Team Obama did it in 2008, so no reason to think they won't in 2012, too ...

Giving credit where it's due, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution did the same thing, saying the content was "partisan," although they did keep the strips on their website. Further, this week they ran all the strips at once, saying that they withheld the strips because the book hadn't been released at the time they were scheduled to run.

The AJC is desperately trying to position itself as balanced now that hyper-partisan Cynthia Tucker has left. In fairness, it's doing OK. It has a mix of columnists both liberal and conservative, and it balances out Mike Luckovich's generally-liberal political cartoons with a number of conservative artists.
