I went in expecting a certain level of corniness, and I really was surprised how little there was. Anyone who compares this to ID4 is crazy. There wasn't anyone running around one step ahead of the aliens. It was chaotic and they had to figure things out on their own. It really did show how devoted the Marines are to completing their mission, even in the face of death. I really did enjoy it a lot more than I thought I would.
I know I am going to get dogged for this, but I liked The English Patient. I thought it was the best film that year and that it did deserve the Oscar. But I also felt no pity for the two lead characters when they died, because they caused so much harm to others. It is made fairly clear in the film (one character kills himself after finding out what Almasy had done) how much damage they did with their selfishness. I didn't see it as promoting the behavior as much as it just showed the machination of thought involved in having an extramarital affair. They were both so self involved that they didn't see the consequences of their actions.
You may turn your guns on me now :)
Talk about a waste of taxpayers money. Not only are we going to waste the millions in legal fees to prosecute him, but we are going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep him behind bars. If people actually paid attention to this case, it wasn't about him trying to avoid paying taxes... it was him not paying when the government told him to pay. He paid what he was told to pay, just not by the deadlines. He owed the government less that 200 thousand dollars (according to him), and attempted to give the government a 6.1 million dollar check on the day of sentencing to make it go away. From what I understand, the government has not given an accurate total on what he does owe. Considering that serious tax cheats have been convicted of felonies (which Snipes was not) and given probation (so that Big Brother got all the money they felt they were due), I think that they personally had it in for Wesley Snipes. I don't know his politics and I don't care about his movie career. I do care that a fellow citizen of mine was railroaded by a petty government who wanted to make an example out of him.
I really didn't want to be the one to do it, but it is Nick Di Paolo (pronounced Dip Paul O). Very conservative guy (although his act is quite blue) if you have never heard his stand up before. If you know Norton's act and aren't offended by him, you will like Nick's as well.
Is anyone really surprised? It's just more group-think mentality. Do we really expect anything else? I'm just glad he was outed as just another Hollywood Kool-Aid drinker so that people can make their own choices about whether or not to support his work.
Wrong on both. I am neither young nor stupid. When someone says something that I disagree with, I can accept that they have a differing opinion than mine. I don't feel the need to hold their stupidity against the others involved in a project that might happen to think differently than the actors in a film. Not everyone on the set is as loony as the stars. And when you boycott a film, you are hitting them as well. There are a lot of writers, producers, cinematographers, etc. that don't have a liberal agenda in their filmmaking. The writer and director of the film was Christopher Nolan, who made what is considered by many a very conservative film in "The Dark Knight". So I am supposed to hold it against them because Ellen Page is a moron?
But please refrain from name-calling. I always thought that was exclusive to the left. We can disagree on this issue, but I would never lower myself to calling you stupid or immature because you feel differently than I do.
Are there any relevant artists on the list? Most of those acts are past their prime or never had one to begin with. ABBA has been getting more attention then anyone mentioned. Maybe ABBA needs to add their name to get people to pay attention. But is ABBA really protest music? OK... Maybe "Take A Chance On Me" is a bit rebellious, but that's it.
I didn't know Ashley Judd was still relevant enough for anyone to care what she has to say.
Maybe if Angelina Jolie said it, I would care.
I don't think DiCaprio said anything too controversial here. Does anyone think that the BP spill is not a monumental disaster? Maybe he is conveniently forgetting that our current President is doing absolutely nothing to help curtail it. But other than that, I didn't really have a problem with anything he said in the interview.
As for Ellen Page: she chooses to use the same villians that the left always uses. Dick Cheney is always the hand-wringing evil genius bent on world domination and Sarah Palin is always the idiot hockey mom trying to shove religion and intolerance down everyone's throat. I think I've heard that story before. I just don't know if George Bush is the evil genius or idiot puppet in her eyes. C'mon sweetie, you're in Hollywood; can't you add just one original narrative to the
"Evil Conservatives Detroying The World" storyline?
I love how they screech on and on about how everyone needs to wisen up and educate themselves, but they clearly have no interest in any opinion that could possibly get them to rethink their own. And so I choose to ignore them. Or laugh at them uncontrollably.
I'm still watching the flick, though.
