I am not an M. Night fan, you hit the nail on the head. I have no taste for his movies other than The Sixth Sense, and can you really argue with me? You can make a case for a few of his movies after that, but I've felt robbed of my $8 after leaving films like "Signs" and "The Happening."

As for the rest of the list, do keep in mind that this is merely a list of movies that I think have potential. To call something "crap" before it's released is a little premature. Will some of them flop? Yes! Will there be great movies released this year that aren't on my list? Absolutely! That's why we watch, and I'm looking forward to spending all sorts of money to see these, including those that I'm not all that excited about, because you really never know how much you'll like a movie until you see it for yourself.

This is actually a great book! I never pictured it as a great screenplay though so it will be interesting to see what kind of audience they pander to and how this adaptation plays out.

Still not sure how I should view George Lucas. One one hand, he brought us "Star Wars." On the other hand, he brought us "Star Wars." I am a die-hard fan of the franchise, but no one can deny that the most recent three films were nowhere near our expectations for them. Episode III wasn't terrible, but I'll never get past the casting decision that let Hayden Christansen portray one of the most well-known characters in all of science fiction.

Not really sure what to expect from this...what will it actually be about? The show didn't have much of a plot to begin with. His direction is enough for me to see just about anything once, but I agree that this doesn't seem to be his forte.

This franchise hasn't been anything special since "Aliens," which is arguably a better movie than the original. Besides the first two movies, though, it's been a mess. The reason behind this isn't rocket science. You had Ridley Scott directing the original and James Cameron handling the sequel. Who directed Alien 3, Resurrection, AVP, etc? No one noteworthy.

This is a great foundation to work with IF you use what worked in the first two movies. The problem is, though, that "Alien" and "Aliens" were two different genres. "Alien" was a horror movie and the sequel was an action movie. Every movie after that couldn't decide which one it was trying to be.

Point being, if you're going to make another Alien movie, there are two essentials:
1. Take one of the original directors (Scott or Cameron) and put them back on board. CHECK!
2. Choose between a horror film with one alien that we barely see until the end, or an action film where we aren't as scared as we are tense and anxious to see how the adventure progresses. The movie can't be scary with a bunch of aliens jumping around getting shot at, and likewise the action element is removed somewhat when you only use one monster and a much more defenseless crew.

Either way, I trust Ridley Scott. The guy made the franchise what it is, and it only makes sense to leave things in his hands (or those of James Cameron).

Yes, Marcus Wright was silently the saving grace of this movie I think. He gave by far the best performance and I think that his story did more to advance the plot than anyone else's. Were it not for him, this movie might've really bit the dust.

I almost didn't catch this comment bc it's not on the actual post you're talking about =P

You make a valid point, though! I know compromise sucks sometimes, but it's how we've come to this point and probably our only means for progressing forward. When you have a country this large with competing interests among its citizens it's hard to rely on anything else without completely alienating huge groups of people. Right? Wrong? Thoughts? Keep it coming lol good hearing from you Mandi =)

You make an excellent point! Politics is becoming something of a consumer item these days, with "brand name" commodities being major political parties. Your argument couldn't be more true.

Good luck with that =P I'm actually agreeing with you for a change, what is there to respond to?

I was excited until I read that it would be a "new generation" movie. Forget about that! The old actors are all still alive and in perfect shape to be in another movie! If you got everyone from the first two on board, why the hell not just continue the story where they left off???
