Demeter's Garden : Give your monthly bills a once over

We do have some sort of group discount through my work, but I think its through either T-Mobile or Verizon. AAA is a good one too, I think most people forget they have it til they need a tow-truck!

Demeter's Garden : A Reasonable Discussion of Breastfeeding

I would really like to see some good studies, unbiased (meaning not funded by anyone with an agenda) and also corrected for socioeconomic status. That is my main problem with the studies I've seen, is that the mothers who are more likely to breastfeed tend to be upper middle class white women whose children might already be at an advantage. I'm not against breastfeeding, not by any means, and from what I have read I think there is DEFINITELY an advantage to colostrum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colostrum) as opposed to formula. Beyond that, I think whatever makes the mother the most comfortable is the best choice and NO ONE should feel guilty about that choice, no matter what choice it is. Formula feeding moms should not feel guilty for not breastfeeding, and breastfeeding moms should not feel guilty or feel uncomfortable about feeding in public.

Demeter's Garden : A Reasonable Discussion of Breastfeeding

I think a big part of the problem is that there aren't very many unbiased sources of information. If I was trying to make the decision between breastmilk and formula, I wouldn't even bother reading anything put out by the formula companies OR La Leche.

I didn't realize she was going to do a book signing, or I would have brought your copy of the book and gotten it signed for you! One interesting thing that she mentioned is that gluten does not seem to bother her while traveling in Europe, only here in the States.

Demeter's Garden : What I'm Reading: This Crazy Vegan Life

Oh I don't know, there are just a few things that I think are still up in the air scientifically speaking. She is big into traditional Chinese medicine which is something I've never had much luck with myself. There is so much pseudoscience in the vegan world and I can't stand it because there is so much good science that backs up a vegan diet. Overall though, she really does stick to the good scientific facts. Unlike the "Skinny Bitch" girls. Ugh, now THAT I could definitely do a blog post on!

They did have the birds, but most of them were outside, I think there were only one or two in the dining area and they weren't really near anyone's table. I didn't actually think of the hygiene factor, lol, must be because I've been sharing my dinner with various pets since I was little!
