http://www.youseedrybones.com/ : Check Out My Arrogance

There was a time when you were a bit arrogant and prideful. Saying "a bit" might even be too nice. You were kind of a "My way or the highway" type of person, from what sports teams were the best to what music sucked and so forth. I can honestly say though that over time you have grown to be understanding and humble. I think a combination of Jill and God whooped you into shape there. ;) Even in reading this blog you can see that. You are transparent and admit your scum. It's awesome.

Right! We ALL are bad people, the first thing as bad people that we need to do it admit we are bad people. Our parents have never done that. I fully admit I am a wretched person. God's grace is what saves us, not some cosmic list. I like Kevin. lol

http://www.youseedrybones.com/ : Have a Fun(damentalist) Christmas

I agree completely with not lying to kids about Santa. Also.. I have no idea why fundamentalists do not celebrate Advent. I have even Googled it and haven’t found anything concrete. I think Advent is a great way to teach kids about Christmas or to simply just celebrate the season. I think a huge problem with our parents were that they were bad people. They used their fundamentalist ways to make everyone, even themselves think that they were doing things right. Think about it, no rock music, no He-Man, no swearing, no Rudolph. They were surely raising us right, great parents and getting brownie points from God for it. (Please note the sarcasm here) Yet, behind all that, there was physical and mental abuse, affairs, back stabbing…. The list goes on. I believe a lot of fundamentalists are like that. They hold onto weird, goofy things that don’t really matter at all, and make it a HUGE deal. I think to hide that inside they are rotten people who most likely hate themselves. Teach your children right, teach them about Christmas, Saint Nick and it’s OK if they sit on Santa’s lap too! They will not burn in hell for it! If you are being truthful and teaching them right, they will know it’s just a story. They will know He-Man was just a toy, or that rock music may not always glorify God, but if you know that, you can just listen to the music because it’s good. Such as Tool. I KNOW they are pretty far from glorifying God, but I love their music. I don’t take it for anything more than that, I am not going to worship satan or anything because my faith in God is strong enough to know it’s JUST A FREAKIN SONG! Because of the fundamental crap we were raised with, for awhile I was almost ashamed to say I was a Christian. I believed in God, always, but I would simply tell people I was spiritual because I thought Christianity meant focusing on all the wrong things. I never understood our parents hatred for the Catholic church so much. It never made sense to me that they never helped the poor, only themselves. It wasn’t until my mid twenties that I started to learn what Christianity really was.

I walked 5 miles in the snow on Saturday for this! :D http://www.firstgiving.com/stephaniereneau

http://www.youseedrybones.com/ : Thanks

There are so many things I am thankful for this year. I am thankful for Kurt's job, through all the layoffs, he's remained. I am thankful he lets me be a housewife. I am SO thankful for God introducing me to Dave Ramsey and then paying off so much debt! I am thankful for the place we live, the food we eat, the clothes we wear... so much more now that we sponsor Saiba, to see people have so little, makes you realize how much you have and take for granted. I am thankful for all God has given us, I feel truly blessed.

http://www.youseedrybones.com/ : Be a Man Monday

When I first lost weight I lost it faster at the beginning to, but after a week or two it slows down to about 2-3 pounds a week. My doctor says 2-3 pounds a week is healthy. If you lose more than that you can weaken your immune system. While I think you can lose 30 pounds in 30 days.. it may not be as healthy as losing 30 pounds in 45 days. You will also be less likely to gain weight back if you lose it slower. Yo-yo dieting isn't any healthier than being overweight. Just be careful!!

http://www.youseedrybones.com/ : Taking Care of Others.

Last year for Christmas we got Kurt's 9 year old son a basketball, we also bought basketballs for children in poverty through World Vision. (www.worldvision.org) They send cards with each gift and we included that in with his basketball, so he could see that children went with a lot less than a Nintendo DS. I really liked this idea I read on someone's blog through Compassion (where we sponsor our child through www.compassion.com) , they had two children 7 and 10. They sponsored children the same ages of their children as gifts for Christmas one year and nothing else. The children grew up writing to these children who were so much worse off then they were. The woman said that two years later when anyone asked the kids what they wanted for Christmas, they told people they were blessed and only wanted to be able to send their "kids" presents. :)

http://www.youseedrybones.com/ : We Wish You a Merry Christmas

<3 this post! After the stress from last year (family drama's, deaths and other craziness) Kurt and I decided to do just what your blog talks about. We gave our Christmas tree and all the lights, ornaments.. everything to a single mom of two, who we found out had no tree or the means to get one for her kids. It was a great way to tell her and the kids about Jesus! This year we probably won't get another tree.. instead we are going to volunteer. We plan to visit people stuck in nursing homes and such with no families and there's a couple charities in the area as well we plan to help with. We don't want gifts either. We're grown ups, usually if we want something we just budget for it anyway... so why not use this time of year to spread the joy of giving and God's word with people? :) Here's a couple links if you are interested in volunteering in your area. http://www.holiday-project.org/ (this is the one that sets you up with others to visit those alone) http://www.volunteermatch.org/ (type your zip in this one to see local charities in need of help)
