Ouch! I think this is the worst news I've yet heard on the whole project. The ripples created by this will probably make the later seasons unrecognizable, and worse, it would have been easy enough to keep things as they were. This is like spending a billion dollars on a new statue and then letting bird crap pile up on it because you want to "save money." I can see from other comments that most people are taking this better than I am. I don't know if that is stoicism or faboyism.

So now I have to look at some young hot woman? I think I can live with it.

Hmm... I'm not sure. Beric's appearance in the tourney is insignificant, and Jeyne Poole's infatuation with him is neither here nor there, BUT...

Ned sending Beric out with Thoros and the Winterfell men to kill Gregor is an essential scene. Ned probably makes a strategic blunder here, as sending Loras would have made it virtually impossible for there to ever be a Tyrell / Lannister alliance. Littlefinger explains this to Sansa, deepening the audience's appreciation of the nuances of the game. This is important to Littlefinger and Sansa's creepy budding relationship as well.

Moving the scene doesn't work because of the war timeline, and Beric has to be in the riverlands before book 2 when Arya is moving through the area.

Just to throw in my own two cents, yes, there is a theory that Jaqen H'gar and Syrio Forel are the same person, but no, I don't agree with this theory. My reasoning is as follows: consider every choice Syrio Forel makes - from training Arya as a water dancer, to risking his life to cover Arya's excape, to entering Eddard Stark's service - there is not one single decision that is explained better if he were a faceless man of Braavos than if he were exactly who he claimed to be. Not a single one. And that's not like Martin, who is an inveterate hint dropper, as we all know.

Will he also be playing Jaqen H'ghar?

I've listened to the Audiobooks so many times I almost know them by heart. I think Roy Dotrice is magnificent and I'm excited to have him in the cast. He's so good that you never consider how good he is or how hard it is to play so many different parts - because they all seem like different people. He particularly nails Tyrion, IMHO.

I think this argument is true only to a very limited degree. HBO has strayed from the POV convention, but they are unlikely to betray it. One way Martin uses his POVs is to leave certain things ambiguous to the reader, as they are to the characters. I doubt they will show us Jon Snow's birth, or reveal who armed a footpad with a certain dagger, because it is either not known for certain, or the drama is better served by it being left unknown. There are things which would be fun to see, (the battle of Oxcross, for example) but which might nonetheless detract from the overall dramatic tension. I do hope the producers, writers, and directors are interested in drama and mood more than spectacle, but I guess there is no way of knowing. (I'm not objecting to the gay sex in itself, just to clarify, - Loras's love for Renly is absolutely central to his character arc.)

Hmm... Since no POV ever witnesses any such scene, I suspect that, as in the books, the relationship will be conveyed through body language, subtext, rumor, and innuendo.

And Ireland is House Targaryen. You only THINK they're gone forever!
