I like to call them "Theme frameworks". All of them can be used as single theme... look Twenty Ten theme for example. This theme can be used as a "regular" theme, or be used easily as a child theme. It have a simple code and it is very fast in loading.

It's true that defrag uses less work to read files from the drive than a defragmented one. But I think that constant usage of defrag might lower your HDD lifetime for sure. Especially if you run it often.

This feature is mentioned to help your system to sort out all unsorted clusters on your disk, with which you can get "some" improvements, but not enough to eventually ruin your drive.
