Paranoia. You're not living in an African nation run by a junta.

As far as I know, the Canadians haven't gone apoplectic over restrictions but I'm sure the NRA would threaten to take down the government if they threatened to confiscate large caliber weapons.

The NRA is right to use fear to motivate their constituents. It's what all dictators use to keep power.

A horrible circumstance and all involved should have received lengthy sentences and plenty of scrutiny on release. But this is an isolated case that I could counter by pointing at all the people who play for the Seattle Symphony orchestra and claim that they're all safe and unmolested.

Tuba Man spent his life on the streets and did fine for years and years. It took a few brainless idiots to end his life. You can't say that's a normal event in Seattle. By the way, did they use a gun? No, they beat him to death from what I recall.

Some form of feedback loop so people who have been involved in domestic disputes, those who require psychoactive drugs to maintain a grip, those who've been convicted of violent crimes but not felonies, etc. cannot get their hands on firearms.

Close the gun show loophole where a private seller can sell to a private buyer without doing paperwork and registering the identity of the buyer and the gun.

More voluntary buy back programs for people who want to get rid of firearms. Not to put them back into circulation but to destroy them.

License people to own a maximum number of firearms. No one needs an arsenal for personal use. That way if someone gets ripped off, it doesn't help make cheap firearms available.

I'm sure there's tons of reasonable measures that could be taken to help.

You must have a sense of humor. Pardon me for saying so but I don't think you're the best suited to say whether your arguments are "more articulate." I find them full of faulty logic that doesn't pass the smell test.

When you come from a neighborhood where crime is part of life and status quo, your options are limited. Sometimes joining "Outlaw culture" is the safest path, since along with the danger, it also provides safety. This is part of any poverty-stricken inner city which lacks opportunity, employment or resources. That would have you assigning guilt to a giant swath of people who have no hand or say in the matter. But that won't stop bumper sticker geniuses from painting that population with a giant brush, as we see every day here in the Komo comments section. I suppose you can join Nancy Reagan and assume that these kids can "just say no" but it never proved successful or even remotely realistic.

States who eschew birth control have the highest rate of teen pregnancy. This is the logic of the modern conservative. Just say no.

Seems like a half-naked woman might appreciate being tazed rather than shot.

Likely so, but that's because they're being produced in mass quantities and somehow making it to the street, cheap.

All depends on your perspective. You're welcome to your opinion but it seems pretty dire.

On the bat beating, that wasn't a robbery. Nothing was taken. There was obviously bad blood between the store owner and the guys who came to beat on him.

I wasn't replying to you, I was replying to inept1.

No one who speaks against guns wants to ban them. But anyone who brings up gun control immediately is branded as a left wing nut who wants to take their guns.

How is there a reasonable conversation to be had when everyone is marginalized?

You want to paint me as a Europe-lovin' liberal and I want to paint you as an uneducated, war-loving vigilante.

Meanwhile, people are dying every day, facilitated by rampant availability of weapons and ammo to the criminal and the criminally insane.

Your argument doesn't speak to the basic truth that the gun is designed a built to kill things whereas the car is designed to transport people.

Comparing gun deaths to car deaths has no correlation but it doesn't stop the gun crowd from making the comparison, as if it held any weight for people with an IQ above 100. It doesn't but it sure makes sense for those stupid enough to be swayed by ill-conceived, dubious associations.

I've owned guns and shot guns and decided I didn't want them in the house once we had kids. I use my brain to keep my wife and kids safe. The chances of a gun keeping me safe are remote unless I'm carrying and carrying is responsibility that I don't care to assume in my daily life.

Tell me, what percentage of the population who own guns are present or former LEOs, military or security personnel? Do you know? How many anti-gun people are present or former LEOs, military or security personnel? Do you know? Methinks you're talking from a dark hole.
