Should people be concerned about where their money is going when it goes to the HSUS. No, not at all. Paying people to do a good job for animals is essential in our too unregulated economy. I'm proud of the work the HSUS does for all animals, and proud that I can support them.

Reality check one oh one folks: Center for Consumer Freedom is behind a desperate war against safe food, drunk driving prevention, and against new mothers having healthy babies. All the CCF is a vicious group that supports industrial agriculture, smoking, and and the inhumane treatment of animals.

The HSUS has NEVER claimed to support local animal shelters. In fact, the HSUS will be the first to tell you to turn off your computers and go volunteer time, money and blankets, towels, and food to your local shelter (s). They, on the other hand, provide shelter trainings, back up for shelters during natural disasters (like Hurricane Katrina), provide money for spay and neutering programs across the country, and engage in lobbying that helps animals live safer, more productive lives.

HSUS is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. It's tax records are public and available. The CCF claims to be a 501 (c)(3), but since all their sponsors are corporate, and irregularities have shown up in their tax records (and Rick Berman the CCF's CEO claimed an income of over $1.4 million last year), the government is in the process of investigating and revoking their status.

Here's the problem with this article. . .it's written by a CCF thug, who has worked for Rich Berman for years. She's never worked in a law office, and if she had she'd recognize that Mr. Berman engages in perjury, libel, and dirty business practices. When Longwell lists CCF "opponents" she points out the BIG ones that hurt their clients the most. MADD, CCF hates. because they are pro ignition lock out devices for convicted drunk drivers. That means we have fewer drunks on the road. CCF hates the American medical association because CCF was originally funded by the Phillip Morris company, and the AMA has confirmed in blind study after blind study that tobacco inhaled via cigarettes and other methods causes cancer. And, last but not least, they hate the HSUS because if farmers have to treat animals lawfully and humanely, there's going to be a cost. If farmers monitored themselves and provided people with a safe food supply, this wouldn't have hit your paper. Next time, check your facts, and get a source with more credibility than Sarah Longwell.
