For those not paying particular attention to Newt Gingrich during the 20 years he served in Congress, let me tell you a little something about Newt. Newt is a guy who is desperate for acceptance and to be liked. This is at the heart of the reason why he ditched Jackie for Marianne, ditched Marianne for Callista and why he ditched Lutheranism for Southern Baptist and ditched Southern Baptist for Catholicism.

It is why he insists on audiences being allowed to cheer, applaud and adulate him during the debates. If Gingrich is elected President and loses the love and support of Republicans (as he did when he served as Speaker of the House), he will turn to liberals for acceptance (just as he did when he made joined with Nancy Pelosi on the issue of global warming).

Gingrich is a reactionary and an opportunists and the catalyst for both of those things is his deep desire for acceptance and to be liked. Which makes him a man without a core.

In a politically polarized country, where elections can not be mathematically won without carrying independent and swing voters, Romney is the only Republican candidate who can beat Obama. He may not be the most conservative running for the nomination. There are those who may argue he's not conservative at all. No matter how you classify Romney, he's still 1000% more conservative than Barack Obama. Romney may not be the ideal destination, but he's definitely a step in the right direction. Grab a running mate like Marco Rubio and you've got yourself a pretty attractive ticket for a lot of people.

Dennis Prager was right. Ideological Republicans would rather win the battle, cede the war and consign the nation to 4 more years of Obama than make a strategic and pragmatic choice. If they are that willing to risk 4 more years of Obama, then their fears and criticisms of him are not to be believed.

You do realize, of course, that Newt is a career politician? I assume you aware that he was a permanent fixture in congress from 1979 until he was drummed out by his own party in 1999 after his petulent, cry-baby, hypocritical, ethics-challenged persona made him such a liability as to cause the Republicans in 1998 to experience a minority party's worst mid-term election results in nearly 65 years. We are talking about the same guy, aren't we?

I can only imagine that you Newt supporters are either too young to remember Gingrich's stint in congress in the 70's, 80's and 90's or you're simply unaware of it. I remember it well and it wasn't all smiles, conservatism and contracts with America. It's also amazing how Sarah Palin, who champions the "outsider" and conservative family values is supporting a 20 year Washington insider with a serious fidelity problem who has changed religions as often as he has changed wives. Nothing like a guy who stands by his commitments!
Sarah Palin lost ALL credibility with this endorsement. As a Floridian, I'll be heading to the polls tomorrow to vote for Romney. Gingrich is, and has always been, an opportunist - both publicly and privately - and political opportunists never do well in the state of Florida. Just ask Charlie Crist. Or wait until Wednesday morning and ask Newt Gingrich.

I just want to make sure I understand this. Sarah Palin jots down a few keywords on her palm before giving a speech and she's mocked by classless twits like Robert Gibbs and Andrea Mitchell. Obama - supposedly the smartest person in the universe (according to Robert Gibbs and Andrea Mitchell) - can't even give a speech to a classroom of 6th graders without reading his entire speech from a teleprompter. And even with his teleprompter, Mr. Smarter Than Thou doesn't even know how to pronounce the word "corpsman". Corpse-man? Really? And he has his degree from where? Harvard, you say? Interesting.

Watch the news coverage over the next few weeks while Obama and the Congress is on vacation. I predict you are going to start seeing far more stories about swine flu and those stories will become increasingly dire. You're going to start hearing stories about how uninsured people can't get the vaccine and will be dying. You're going to start hearing how insurance companies won't pay for the vaccine and accusations that they are killing their customers. All of this is very deliberate and made to scare the public so that after Labor Day, Obama and the Democrats can ride back into Washington with promises that none of this would happen if we had Obama "health care reform". Get ready for the brainwashing and bamboozling. And don't think for a minute that the sudden surge in swine flu stories is in any way a coincidence.

bibibib202020 - I seriously suggest you spend at least a year living in a country that has socialized medicine, like I have. Then come back and sing to me the virtues of this health care plan. If you think for a MINUTE that your use of the "public option" is going to deliver you the level of care that people are able to obtain with private insurance.... GROW UP. While living in England, I had to wait 5 weeks for an appointment with a dentist for an absessed tooth - and the nearest dentist that was accepting new NHS patients was 125 miles away. That's in a country of 60 million people. Try seeing what it'll be like in a country of 305 million. Have a nice day.

It occurs to me that the harder Obama and Democrats push for Orwell's 1984, the more likely they are going to end up with Gingrich's 1994. Just a (pleasant) thought.

Not to date myself, but I graduated public school (high school) in 1982. And while it sucks getting old, not a day passes where I'm not grateful to have gone through school when I did. Back then, we were educated. Not indoctrinated. I learned trigonometry, not how to put a condom on a banana. I learned geography, not political correctness. And I learned about American history as it actually happened - warts and all - and not this revisionist Oliver Stone crap they are teaching these days.

ssintense - the single biggest factor in both the dwindling supply of health care professionals/facilities and the increased costs of health care are the ceilingless malpractice lawsuits that plague the industry on a daily basis. The single biggest "reform" to ease supply and decrease health care costs would be tort reform. Not only are Obama and the Democrats NOT suggesting (much less legislating) any type of tort reform, but Obama - at a meeting with the AMA - flatly said that tort reform was off the table. Why, you may ask? Why - if Obama and the Democrats' true goal is to lower health care costs as they often say - would they not propose to reform the one thing that drives up the costs the most? Oh...I dunno. Could be because the trial lawyers associations are amongst their biggest campaign donors? Yeah.
