I don't answer to "liberal" or "conservative" but idiots like you who think defending a fecal fetish gives them the intellectual high ground is why I spend a lot more time reading BH than HuffPo.

And your handle is an insult to my childhood pet and best friend!

Oh, it's Black LIB? Never mind.......

Sick. We've had MTV blocked at our house for the last ten years. I love music and discovered some of the stuff I loved as a young guy watching MTV ( best video ever; Replacements "Bastards of Young", 4 minutes looking at a stereo speaker!). Somehow my son has managed to grow up and become a music aficionado with out the help of that excrement (my nod to OP). Somehow he's managed to discover and introduce me to Say Anything, Bon Iver, Kevin Devine, and Cursive and discover the Smiths, the Pixies and a lot of other greats without any help from the gutter. Oh, and grow up to be a sensible young guy with a good moral sense.

Say no to MTV, eh?

Awesome. I used to play in a crappy garage punk-ish band and we decided to cover Daydream Believer ( but with a punk edge, how original!). We always ended up doing it earnestly and sincerely. It's just that good of a song, it compelled us to respect it. Davy's superlative, sunshiney vocal has a lot to do with that.

P.S. We bookended the set with that and Last Train to Clarksville. Didn't matter the audience. Everyone loved 'em.

Hey BigBiff,

Sorry to poke my nose in here, but I think you and the author are really saying the same thing. I believe that she meant that from the person's perspective they view it as selfless (a favor to those who they are failing in some way) because of their mental illness. You rightly point out how it really is selfish due to the suffering inflicted on those left behind.

For what it's worth, I think you're both right. What a terrible place for a person to find themselves in.

Back to my own business........

Dude, I come here for entertainment news and not so much politics, although, full disclosure, I'm sure most people would label my social outlook as 'conservative'. Since the political is not my interest or point-of-view I enjoy reading differing opinion and thought.

That being said, I thought you made a reasonable, interesting, yes nuanced, point above.

Why do you have to undermine it by being a jerk towards anyone who thinks otherwise?

I enjoy this website, respect the contributors and appreciate it's point-of-view, but I'm not in lock-step with everything that I read. For that reason, I have tried to read your posts with interest, but it's obvious: You aren't posting a thoughtful reaction your basically sticking your finger up your nose and screaming "Nolte and his commenters drink doody-water".

Why do you waste so many words just to be insulting without a real counter-point? That tells me more of what I need to know about you as a person more than any political affiliation you may have. And yes, I do feel the same way about people on the opposite side of the fence from you when they napalm a piece simply to watch the flames.

Yeah, what's up with that?

Isn't experience supposed to be making me more emotionally stable? I may not cry uncontrollably , but I avoid pictures just like this one regardless of merit because I want to avoid going through the ringer. (Yes, it's okay for men to cry, but not every time some furry critter fictionally finds success or a sad demise).

I can't believe I'm getting thumbed down because I said I liked the artist who wrote the song in 1985 and I'm happy they are getting exposure. If you consider rock music a form of art you will respect the contributions that a group like Fishbone has made. They were among the first to combine George Clinton-esque funk, ska, reggae, hard co punk, jazz and straight ahead rock into a party synthesis. I didn't defend the Roots use of the song or the Roots themselves.

I am a big fan of Big Hollywood, but I actually sense a little myopic, herd mentality here. #livinguptothesterotype

I apologize in advance, and completely agree that civility is critically important. I don't support anybody insulting anybody. But a Fishbone reference? Any attention give to the most criminally underappreciated band of all time has at least some value. Hey, at least they didn't play UGLY or Cholly.

Fishbone is red hot!

Yeah, I should have looked first too. Panera just said no to following that link.
