I know that American liberals think nothing important happened in American cinema prior to the rise of the so-called New Hollywood but to call Battleground (the film that singlehandedly invented the war film genre in its modern form) a "poorly made propaganda" flick reveals either bad taste, bad faith or sheer ignorance, unless it's all three at the same time.

Because he wasn't handsome, at a time when your looks made your career. Had he started his career in the 70s, he might have been a leading man and get the recognition he deserved. It's terribly ironic that modern Hollywood, while ditching almost everything that made the old great, has inherited one of its most regretable witnesses (Why do you think George Clooney successfully managed the transition from TV to the silver screen whereas James Gandolfini remained a supporting actor even after winning three emmys?)

Liberal hatred of Bush was not irrational? Are you kidding? I remember some liberals back in '04 thinking that Bush wouldn't let the election happen and instead set a coup and start a military dictatorship (I'm not joking - I dealt online with one of those nutjobs) And what about portraying Bush as Hitler's second coming, even adding a little mustache on his photos? Was it rational (no matter where you stand on Bush's record, Hitler he definetely wasn't)? Bush derangement syndrome was, and remains, a sad reality.

Regarding Obama I feel no sympathy for him. For two years he had all the power needed to bring the "change" he promised and NOTHING CAME OUT. And the only excuse he can find is to blame the Reps. Honestly it's a bit cheap. To put it very, very mildly.

Memo to Scarlett: Obama has been in the White House for four years. If it wasn't enough for him to bring the "change" why should we believe four more years will make it? Maybe a life term would do? (I'm sure many obamanacs would happily dispense with the 22nd)
