Actually Dave is right. He and I aren't members of the same "tribe" as those in Detroit, or New Orleans for that matter, or Haiti. If we were, our cities would look like theirs. And they don't. Oddly enough! The people of Detroit voted for Democrats, and welcomed the machinations of greedy unions, enjoying the fruits of their overpaid factory and bureaucratic labor.

Watching a team of smart, competent men and women handle a seemingly impossible problem, fail then keep trying -- it is inspirational in its own way. Plus lots of action and great dialogue.

I interviewed her back in 2003 when she was the target of Dial A Fatwa. No really! I think the story is still up at the American Spectator site. She seems pretty for real to me. And so well spoken. Makes a great impression. She reminds me of secular Jews and "progressive" Catholics I've know: their childhood religion is their culture and informs everything about them, but they are really Western civ/enlightenment people first and foremost. I could be wrong but that's how the few "moderate Muslims" I've met come across to me. The trouble is that naturally more devout Muslims don't think they are authentic, anymore than I have a lot of time for radical leftwing Catholics.

Do you mean, "Why are GAYS more obsessed with gay "marriage" than with the death of gays in Muslim countries"? Because conservatives worry about both. Them? Not so much. Gay marriage is simply a poke in the eye of society, like so much that professional gay people do. Rosie O'Donnell admitted that's why she got "married" -- to "make a statement." This is also about selfishly grabbing at measly "benefits" (which are now considered "rights" in yet another degeneration of that once noble word.) so on all levels: gay "marriage" is selfish. Turning what is supposed to be one of the ultimate acts of selflessness into a monument to arrogance -- good going gays. At least stop pretending to wonder why so many people don't like you.
