Yeah I would say that our motivation is many times based in what we will get. But isn't it we have been blessed therefore we give. Yeah we are still going to receive more blessings but the blessing that drives us is Jesus and what has been given. I am not disagreeing with you, I am merely trying to emphasis the point that we give because we have been blessed, not only because we will be blessed. If our motivation is based 'what we will get' but what we 'have been given'. Subtil difference, yet needed I think. Does that make sense...?

Dan, I am guessing you are talking about the first video by Tim Keller.

I would say yes it does give us instructions to live by, but within the OT it points us towards the only one who can and has lived this way. If we view the Bible as a mere guide book then we can only have one of two reactions: 1) Pride - because we are 'good' or 2) Depression - because we can't possibly live up to it. Josh Otte, a fellow pastor has a great article on the difference of looking at the Bible as a 'how to' vs looking at what Jesus has done. It is looking at the difference between WWJD and WHasJD - http://windhambaptist.wordpress.com/2009/01/30/ww... I would recommend reading through it. I think we agree on this Dan, but I wanted to expound on why I posted this video on here. Thanks for commenting! Let me know your thoughts.

To be honest I have not read much C.S. Lewis, although just about everyone I read has read him. I plan to read him at some point. The problem there is sooo much good stuff to read out there.

Nice. That is a great story. I always think that ministry would be easy, simple and fun if it were not for the people!

Glad it is helpful. I hope that it will help people treasure Jesus more! As Piper would say undistracted excellence in all that we do.

I also have been blessed to have a few key people in my life to do life with. God blesses us with these people, but oh how much we need to encourage teens to be in a this type of community!
