So... KISS wasn't already in the hall? Like their music or not, KISS kind of epitomized the grandiose live show many moons ago... Were they not worthy until 2009? Or was the Rock N' Roll HOF waiting until they could induct them alongside famous Rocker LL Cool J?

The building should be renamed the Museum of Popular Music as to disassociate itself with the notion that it is the functional equivalent of an actual HOF. Of course, if it did that we wouldn't be reading about its "nominees" on a national news outlet...

I have first hand experience with insane "Miscellaneous Fees" from a university, but I'd never heard of money being funneled to PIRGs. This is something to look into, and a MAJOR story for any journalist worth their salt.

Beat me to it.

I was a bit taken aback at the assessment of a filibuster being moral and a straight majority through reconciliation being somehow immoral.

Just another case of American "untouchables" daring to lay their hands on a higher caste... maybe when we stop believing that Muslims are inferior and, instead, understand, like Indians, that religion has nothing to do with how the social castes should be arranged we'll all be better off...

Nevermind, that's completely asinine.

I think if I worked in L.A. and was forced to be around kids like the ones you described, I'd be pushed outright to Fire and Brimstone Methodism...

People like that make hell seem like a desirable mechanism.

Good post Dave -

I have never agreed with the claim that religion was the primary cause of many of the conflicts and problems that sometimes surround it, but rather human distortion and abuse that results in religion being used for illegitimate means.

Christianity in particular has been distorted heavily for the past 2000 years. When the most important figure in a religion was an absolute pacifist it seems a bit silly to claim that Christian beliefs foment war rather then human beings.

I take issue with your asserting that "a true atheist would realize that nothing matters at all, including the atheist."

The only thing one needs to realize to be a true atheist is that there, in all likelihood, is not a divine creator or other gods that interact with the world we know. I believe you are getting atheists confused with nihilists. Many atheists think quite highly of themselves, humanity, and the world around them out of belief that "this is it."

Your "in the absence of any type of progression..." comment confuses me as well. For many atheists, progression on Earth is the only chance for a desirable future we have, and this is where you get into "pushy atheism" that is, at its essence, not very different from evangelism. Some atheists fear that in a world where a large majority are religious, progress will be put on the back burner out of the majority belief that the world will inevitably end when that respective religion's doomsday prophecy comes to pass.

"In fact, without nepotism we may never have had Liza Minelli, George Clooney, Drew Barrymore or Hank Williams Jr."

So... nepotism is...... bad?
