Ahh, I see you are just another flower child with every bit the arrogance of the Baby Boomer generation. Thanks for having only two kids.

"I would never go back to the way things were in prior generations. I like seeing women in the Boardroom, which never happened in my mother's generation." Yeah, I just love seeing women command the sinking ships of American industry. Because they're so good with sinking ships. You do know that even women prefer overwhelmingly to work under male leaders, right? As for the study you linked, cherry-picked, "self-reported" answers do not good research make. The flaws of that study are far and wide.

Right. $PLC took a break from hunting Klansmen and decided to go bully a few MRA's. Real good use of all that money. And of course no one is calling for the abolition of femininity.* They're only calling for even more masculinity for everybody else! You know, because a woman cannot enter public life unstigmatized without the requisite swagger of making like Bro-mmander and the boys. Unlike...you know... the Middle Ages. Or the Renaissance. *After all, one does draw more flies with honey. Its propaganda journalism 101.

In a world filled with women who think (and look) like Sandra Fluke, can you blame them? Their XBoxes provide more feminine companionship than the current crop of budding feminists.

Well, I would argue that most Muslims are fairly ignorant of other religions as well. Same thing goes for Buddhists, Hindus, and every other religious group out there that isn't just peddling snake oil. But I find that atheists are the most ignorant of all when it comes to religion. And Mr. Alain de Botton encapsulates that belief for me. What's worse is that so many of them try their damndest to convince us that they "get it".

MercatorNet : MercatorNet: How hedonism became America’s official religion

The Church's ban on contraception is an acknowledgement of the monstrous capacity of human nature. How can you honestly say that a religion that requires celibacy in order to reach the upper echelons of its hierarchy is just out to farm new members?

I think there is a Disney show with the same premise as this. Apparently, it is very easy for precocious teenage girls to fake their way into the fashion industry. Then again, in an industry that prides itself with appearance over substance, why shouldn't it be?

Like a lot of stupid people, these Belgians probably remain confident as long as it is not them who has to face the prospect of being murdered by some thoughtful doctor. Euthanasia, like abortion, corrupts not just the individual. It corrupts entire professions, entire peoples, and even entire nations. If the right to ship off Gramps on an ice floe becomes an established European "value", then the collapse of the precious Euro will be the least of its problems.

I think Mr. de Botton is engaged in a massive exercise in missing the point. Religious belief did not pop up and simply draw together all these disparate benefits de Botton wants the New Atheists to appropriate. All these benefits stem from religious belief, and people committed to slandering that foundational belief will not be able to maintain the accoutrements of faith for long. If you shut off the fountain, the water inevitably runs out. After all, who wants to abide by such a woefully abstract concept as "human dignity" when we are but mere meat puppets? Or for that matter, how do we maintain a sense of community if we are nothing more than autonomous individuals? There is simply no reason to love the jackass next to you if all you really believe in is that there is no God and we are all going to die. (Unless of course, the jackass next to you is bigger and far more capable, in which case, why would he tolerate you?)

"There is no scientific answer to this." Because science says that the human embryo is an entirely different species from the human being it becomes. I wish I developed into a ferret with a 150 IQ, but them's the breaks.

MercatorNet : MercatorNet: Has Europe lost its soul?

Oh goody, one more round of "Imitation of Christ" the Game Show! I'll spot you all of my imitation points if you'll acknowledge Jesus' maleness as strongly as you emphasize his poverty. It seems that your ideological bent doesn't bend that way. Its a fun game, aside from the fact that it completely misses the point. As for the rest of your point, sure, a collective can have a sort of "soul" arising from the collective sentiments of its individual parts. Or maybe you are part of some semantic activist group railing against all metaphors? If you are, then there is no convincing you. BTW, if you are European, I hope you have as much balls to demand Anatolia back from the Turks as you do asking your fellow Europeans to return their "plunder" back to the colonies. If you're African, I hope your willing to acknowledge the horror of extinction your tribe most likely inflicted on some other, much smaller tribe on its way to dominance of your little patch of earth. This blame game goes round and round and never stops.
